CA-36: Craig Huey Vs. Janice Hahn – Little Voter Persuasion Going On

110630hahnhueyap328 CA 36: Is Janice Hahn Out of Campaign Cash?

Los Angeles City Council Member Janice Hahn and GOP Congressional Nominee and businessman Craig Huey
In the waning days of a special election Congressional race (July 12th), there is little persuasion and a whole lot of contrast between Craig Huey and Janice Hahn.

The 36th Congressional District race does not lack contrasting views from its two candidates, and perhaps none seem so stark as their differences on the subjects of creating jobs and reducing the deficit.

Summarized, the plans of Democrat Janice Hahn and Republican Craig Huey mostly follow familiar party lines.

Hahn’s jobs blueprint relies heavily on government subsidization of programs and initiatives that she says will help create 25,000 “green” jobs in the district by 2018.

Her deficit-busting ideas include returning troops home from conflicts overseas – saving $10billion a month – ending Bush-era tax cuts for the wealthy and eliminating tax breaks for corporations that send jobs overseas.

Huey, a Tea Party favorite, holds to the legacy left by President Ronald Reagan.

Lowering taxes, Huey says, will encourage private employers to hire and grow. Dispensing with regulations that are “destroying businesses” will have the same effect.

Huey wants to rein in “out of control” spending as a first solution to getting employment and the economy moving forward. Along that line, he has identified $200 billion in what he considers overlapping bureaucracy, including 80 transportation programs, 56 financial literacy programs, 44 federal job-training efforts and 15 food safety groups.

If both offerings look ideologically Democrat and Republican, it’s by design, said Allan Hoffenblum, a former GOP strategist who now
co-edits the nonpartisan elections guide, the California Target Book.

With little time to campaign, Hahn and Huey push views that are ambrosia to the type of party voter who will come out to cast a ballot in the July 12 special election.

“There’s very little voter persuasion going on,” Hoffenblum said. “This is R versus D.”

This race will boil down to who turns out for this election. Huey will turn out his Republican/Libertarian/Social Conservative base and it is uncertain whether Hahn will be able to turn out traditional Democratic constituencies, like Big Labor and African Americans. Even with a large 16 point Democratic registrationa advantage, it her voters stay home, Craig Huey will win.

And, remember this district will likely change for 2012 and more than likely become less Democratic.

for the sake of our america, there is no question hahn must win. huey is such a danger to the american way. he is the american version of the taliban. our constitution and declaration of independance means nothing to him. he would replace them with church doctrine if he had the chance. look at his rants on his web site re judges. look at the huey satan letter. so extreme. but i guess it is o.k. to cheat investers out of money, when marketing goldmines and other pump and dump businesses. just give him $ and he will take off his wwjd ring.

      Allen Snow,

All you have done the past few months is comment on how Craig Huey is like the American Taliban on different threads.

      How ridiculous.

I mean the Constitution and Declaration of Independence means nothing?

Dude, I was in high school U.S. History/Civics with Huey and have known him for over 40 years. To say Craig does not like the Constitution is absurd.

maybe the problem is, you do not see the forest through the trees. i dealt with him on neighberhood/church matters and, and know how cruel and extreme he is. he sees satan everywhere. our neighbers know him in a way you may never. every comment you make about craig is so adoring. you see him as the second coming, i see him as a narrow minded and evil person. not someone we want in washington. he is as dangerous as many people think. while hahn is not the ideal candidate, at least she is sane.

In this comment it sounds to me that you were on the other side of Huey’s church development project in Rolling Hills. If this is the case, then do you, Allen or whatever your real name is, even live in CA-36?

My guess is that you will not even be able to vote for Janice Hahn on July 12th.

yes, i was on the other side, let me tell you a little something about your friend. he sent out letters explaing we were on satans side, because we were oposed to a huge mega church in our small city. one of my children saw the letter and was upset for days thinking we were hell bound because we did what americans do, we fought the expansion. along with a very large majority of residents here. he is a mean spirited and narrow minded person. i think we have enough of that in washington. and yes, we are not in the district, but will be when the boundies are changed. and since you are discussing districts, huey is not living in the district he is running in either. what about that? is that o.k. some how?

          • Gregory Flap Cole

I figured you had some sort of personal grudge against Huey or were working for his opponent Janice Hahn.

And, the fact is you cannot even vote against Huey because you do not live in the Congressional District. You must really hate him because he rallied his church to support expansion.

Gosh, don’t you feel good about yourself opposing a church. Good grief, a California NIMBY who levels personal attacks against a Torrance businessman because they had a disagreement over a church development.

            Wow!

By the way, Craig was raised and lived in the South Bay all of his life. His business is in Torrance. And, you are aware that Congressional candidates are not required to live in the Congressional Districts that they represent, right? Huey lives in the newly drawn (California Citizen’s Redistricting Commission draft maps) CA-36 or whatever number it will be given.

You admit the residency is a minute issue since he lives just outside the district.

i beg to differ. maybe being called an agent of satan is o.k. for you and your friends and family, but it is not for me. for you to think this is o.k. makes me understand why you are so close to huey. any sane person would wonder what is wrong with this guy. and he wants to run for office? i am done with this for tonight, good night gracie

          • Gregory Flap Cole

Readers will read the letter and decide for themselves. It is all about the context and the language – not your twisted interpretation.

Yeah a vendetta is the proper term here and from someone who cannot even vote for Janice Hahn against Craig Huey.

            How quaint.

          • Gordon Freeman

I read the direct mailing written by Mr. Huey that Mr. Cole posted.  I can’t see how any rational person would take offense.  Had I lived in your area ten years ago I would probably have also protested the expansion of RHCC and in no way do I think that would imply I am on doing the work of Satan.  I know my faith too well to fall for that kind of direct marketing copy gimmickry.

Ms. Hahn, however, supports abortion as if it were a sacramental rite.  Much of her anti-Huey propaganda is based on Huey being against the unnatural slaughter of pre-born children.  This stance is consistent with an agenda that is selfish and evil.  I can with confidence say that if you support Hahn or for that matter any pro-abortion candidate you are on the side of Satan, whether you want to believe it or not.

one more thought, he may say he appreciates the constitution, but i promise you, any moral or religious position he holds is more important to him than the constitution. he is the extremist most people think he is. he needs to stay in business fleecing the public with fear tactics. he is not a good person

        • Gregory Flap Cole

Frankly, I think you have some sort of vendetta against Huey or are just a paid flack for Janice Hahn and/or the Democratic Party.

Plus, all you seem to do is name call which is petty for someone who is not identifying themself.

  • Anonymous

i have always stated my reasoning behind my beliefs. no name calling to it. i know he is a friend of yours and can respect your protecting him. but he is not the person to represent the majority in his district. he is extreme and dangerous in his views.

no flap, this is not personal. i cannot think of anyone i hate. saying it is a grudge or vandetta just makes our opinions sound trivial. your comments just show you do not know the depth of our fear of huey in washington. assuming huey put you up to this (being his defender) makes him sound paranoid.  knowing his behavior and thinking of him representing this community in washington scares me and many, many others. we can have different opinions without it meaning we are in league with satan, or it being some sort of vendetta.

  • Anonymous

the thing to remember is, most people who were on the fence about the development project, were put off by huey’s letter and cocky behavior. the church never rcvd permission for the development. the reason? it was too big for their property and the community. nothing to do with religion or qas huey thinks, the great battle with satan!

    • Gregory Flap Cole

It was the City Council that decided the issue, not the people. From my experience on the Thousand Oaks Planning Commission most citizens except the aggrieved parties ever care about these development decisions. But, sides can be quite passionate and down right nasty at times.

And, I do know that  these citizens can hold elected officials and fellow citizens with contempt via a personal vendetta for years.

This appears to be the case here.

      Have a nice evening.

i can see that you like huey does not have faith in the american peoples voices. that is one of the many problems with mr huey, he is willing to tell the people what they want. Ionly his narrow point of view matters. sorry, and your narrow point of view. i am done with you and will continue to make sure the people understand who and what huey is. i have truth on my side, you have your relationship with that extremist on yours. i will not be responding to your comments after this. i remember what my mother told me when i was a child, never argue with a fool, or people will forget who the fool is.

        • Gregory Flap Cole

There you go again -calling Craig Huey and now me names.

You know in all of your comments you never once addressed the issues of the campaign. All you did was spam the Huey is an extremist theme from Democratic talking points.

By the way, read my terms of use and consider this a warning.

When you return under yet a different name stick to the issues.
