'Christmas Miracle' Kitten Rescued After Spending 10 Days Stuck In An Antioch Storm Drain
ANTIOCH (CBS SF) -- The mewing pleas of a frightened kitten were answered Thursday after volunteers coaxed the feline from a storm drain it spent over a week trapped in.
Volunteers from the Homeless Animals Response Program rescued the small gray kitten, bringing a happy conclusion to neighbors' 10-day question of how to safely remove the kitten from the 10-foot-deep storm drain.
"It was a Christmas miracle," nearby resident Arlen Dumin told the Bay Area New Group. The rescue operation flooded the street with the cars of nearly one dozen volunteers and an Antioch police vehicle. "You should have seen it," Dumin said. "It was amazing."
Residents tried plucking the cat out with nets, a snare and even a tied sheet in hopes it'd climb up. Then the city finally recommend sending a trap down the storm drain. After some coaxing, the cat climbed into the trap and was hoisted to safety.
It's unknown if the kitten, which was wearing a pink a collar and bow when found, had a previous owner. For now, the feline is resting well at a neighbor's home.
