I’ve always been interested in any job or activities that requires a uniform. I feigned interest in ballet as a kid to get a pink leotard, wanted to be a girl scout for the sash - participated on my high school dance team and cheered for a major league hockey team for the cute uniforms and once was persuaded to try my hand at tennis solely because I wanted a white pleated skirt.

Playing dress up has never ever gotten old to me. 5 years ago, fresh out of college i became enamored with crinolines, petticoats, and tutus. The fluffier the better. I wore them to watch tv on thursday nights, I wore them to finish off a bottle of wine with my roomates, I wore them under dresses to parties. By some off-kilter rationale, I decided obnoxiously fluffy skirts were to be the uniform of my first “i’m a real grown up” years.

A darling friend, Lilu met us out one night while we were in Raleigh last week and presented me and Natasha with tutus she handmade for our girls. All that fluffy yellow tulle, it’s tee-tiny size, visions of dress up and twirling on chubby little feet… I was beside myself with joy.  I can’t thank Lilu enough for her generosity and for taking the time to make something so beautiful with so much care.

If Everly is anything like her ‘ol mama, she’ll be wearing this lovely thing till the ribbon barely stretches around her belly anymore.
