New York (CNN) -- Police in New York say they've unmasked the woman behind robberies at the city's shoe and bath stores, who donned a cat mask in at least one of the incidents.
The suspect was identified as Shanna Spalding, 28, from the New York borough of Queens, according to a statement from the New York Police Department on Thursday.
The thief allegedly operated by entering a store, browsing discreetly, and then covering her face -- with a cat mask on one occasion and with a scarf on two others -- and pouncing on the store's cashier with a note warning that she had a gun and demanding cash.
According to the Police Department statement, the department's anti-crime unit apprehended Spalding on Wednesday after officers noticed that she matched the description of the robbery suspect. Officers entered a store she had just departed, where a woman told police she had just been robbed at gunpoint by the suspect, the statement said.
"The officers apprehended the suspect without further incident," the police statement said.
Spalding was charged in Wednesday's incident, as well as in a robbery in June, authorities said. She faces two counts of robbery, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and two counts of menacing, the Police Department said.
She's also suspected in at least two other robberies. In all of the thefts, the robber made off with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.
