What Happened Last Week

Well, we’re in week 1, so that’s a tough one pal. What I can tell you is that last year, SFA lost to TCU 70-7 and their only four wins were against Nicholls State, Southeastern Louisiana, Incarnate Word and Houston Baptist. Those last two wins for SFA were blowouts, while the other two wins were incredibly close, two wins by a total of 5 points.

Players to Watch

1. QB Zach Conque (6-6/237): Conque is the coaches son and he was okay, but he’s a big guy that can run and is a decent passer. Conque averaged 50 yards a game last year and had 16 touchdowns to just 8 interceptions.

2. WR Ruffin De’Quann (6-2/200): Ruffin is a true deep threat and with size. That’s the one thing that really worries me with the defense, big receivers that can get deep. Last year, De’Quann only averaged 34 yards a game, but he averaged 16 yards a catch.

3. DE Kedrick Harrison (6-2/246): Expect Harrison to speed rush the heck out of two redshirt freshman offensive tackles. Harrison didn’t have a ton of productin, but he was the most productive of the SFA group as he had 5.5 tackles for a loss. Fellow defensive end Jamal Allen (6-0/246) and Harrison should be blitzing quite a bit on Saturday.

4. LB Price Miller (6-1/228): Miller was the leading tackler with Patrick Martin, netting 52 tackles for the Lumberjacks. Miller is solid, not spectacular and probably isn’t asked to do a ton as he only has 1.5 tackles for a loss.

The Early Line

There is no early line, at least according to OddsShark, which aggregates a handful of books, but because Texas Tech is playing an FCS opponent, there’s no line. This is fairly common when a school plays an FCS opponent and it’s not at all a surprise. Brian and I are working on a Big 12 preview that will have the available lines for the Big 12 teams, so you can fictionally spend your money there this week. That should drop on Wednesday.
