ROME, May 19, 2017 (LifeSiteNews) – Cardinal Raymond Burke issued a call this morning for the Catholic faithful to “work for the consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.”
Cardinal Burke, who is one of the four Cardinals who have asked Pope Francis for a clarification of Amoris Laetitia, made his appeal at the Rome Life Forum, in the month of the centenary of Our Lady of Fatima’s first apparition to the three shepherd children.
Burke is the former prefect of the Apostolic Signatura and current Patron of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta.
In a comprehensive address on “The Secret of Fatima and a New Evangelization,” Cardinal Burke, in the presence of fellow dubia Cardinal Carlo Caffarra, outspoken Kazakhstan Bishop Athanasius Schneider and over 100 life and family leaders from 20 nations, said that the triumph of the Immaculate Heart would mean much more than the ending of world wars, and the physical calamities that Our Lady of Fatima predicted.
“As horrible as are the physical chastisements associated with man’s disobedient rebellion before God, infinitely more horrible are the spiritual chastisements for they have to do with the fruit of grievous sin: eternal death,” he said.
He expressed agreement with one of the foremost Fatima scholars, Frère Michel de la Sainte Trinité, who said that the promised triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary undoubtedly refers firstly to “the victory of the Faith, which will put an end to the time of apostasy, and the great shortcomings of the Church’s pastors.”
Turning to the current situation in the Church in light of Our Lady of Fatima’s revelations, Burke said:
The teaching of the Faith in its integrity and with courage is the heart of the office of the Church’s pastors: the Roman Pontiff, the Bishops in communion with the See of Peter, and their principal co-workers, the priests. For that reason, the Third Secret is directed, with particular force, to those who exercise the pastoral office in the Church. Their failure to teach the faith, in fidelity to the Church’s constant teaching and practice, whether through a superficial, confused or even worldly approach, and their silence endangers mortally, in the deepest spiritual sense, the very souls for whom they have been consecrated to care spiritually. The poisonous fruits of the failure of the Church’s pastors is seen in a manner of worship, of teaching and of moral discipline which is not in accord with Divine Law.
The call for the consecration of Russia is for some controversial, but Cardinal Burke addressed the reasons for his appeal simply and straightforwardly. “The requested consecration is at once a recognition of the importance which Russia continues to have in God’s plan for peace and a sign of profound love for our brothers and sisters in Russia,” he said.
“Certainly, Pope Saint John Paul II consecrated the world, including Russia, to the Immaculate Heart of Mary on March 25, 1984,” said Cardinal Burke. “But, today, once again, we hear the call of Our Lady of Fatima to consecrate Russia to her Immaculate Heart, in accord with her explicit instruction.”
The want for the ‘explicit’ mention of Russia in the consecration as requested by Our Lady was desired by Pope John Paul II, but not undertaken due to pressure from counselors. This fact was confirmed most recently by the official representative of Pope Francis at the Fatima anniversary celebration last week in Karaganda, Kazakhstan.
Speaking on May 13, Cardinal Paul Josef Cordes, former president of the Pontifical Council Cor Unum, recalled his conversation with Pope John Paul II after the 1984 consecration, or “entrustment,” which took place March 25, when the statue of Our Lady of Fatima was in Rome.
“Obviously, for a long time [the pope] had dealt with that significant mission which the Mother of God had given to the seer children there,” Cordes said. “However, he held back to mention Russia explicitly, because the Vatican diplomats had urgently asked him not to mention this country because otherwise political conflicts might perhaps arise.”
For those who may still object to calling for the consecration of Russia, Cardinal Burke recalled the words of Pope St. John Paul II who in 1982 during his consecration of the world to the Immaculate Heart noted: “Mary’s appeal is not for just once. Her appeal must be taken up by generation after generation, in accordance with the ever new ‘signs of the times’. It must be unceasingly returned to. It must ever be taken up anew.”
Instructing the faithful, Cardinal Burke taught that Our Lady of Fatima “provides for us the means to go faithfully to her Divine Son and to seek from Him the wisdom and strength to bring His saving grace to a profoundly troubled world.”
Cardinal Burke outlined six means Our Lady gave at Fatima for the faithful take part in the restoration of peace in the world and in the Church:
- to pray the Rosary each day
- to wear the Brown Scapular;
- to make sacrifices for the sake of saving sinners;
- to make reparation for offenses to her Immaculate Heart by means of the First Saturday devotion; and
- to convert our own lives ever more to Christ.
- Lastly, she asks the Roman Pontiff, in union with all the Bishops of the world, to consecrate Russia to her Immaculate Heart.
“By these means, she promises that her Immaculate Heart will triumph, bringing souls to Christ, her Son,” Cardinal Burke added. “Turning to Christ, they will make reparation for their sins. Christ, through the intercession of His Virgin Mother, will save them from Hell and bring peace to the whole world.”

Reading Maradiega’s words is quite reassuring however: reassuring that the Church is in deep trouble, being run by people who simply do not possess the Catholic faith at all; Maradiega is a perfect manifestation of everything Our Lady came to tell us at Fatima. But they will be overcome in the end.

Sometimes with famous people, when the first surname is very common (Rodriguez, Garcia, etc.) and the second surname is more distinctive, they are often called by the second surname. I’ve seen “Cardinal Maradiaga” in Spanish media as well.
If so, the Spanish media are remiss as well; journalism worldwide isn’t exactly at its zenith these days. One never refers to “Gasset” but only to “Ortega,” and we refer to “Franco,” but never “Bahamonde.” I agree with you about Rodriguez Zapatero, but that was done perhaps because his father’s surname is so pedestrian, so common, like Smith in English.

OH, wait a second, I thought the consecration HAD ALREADY BEEN DONE??? Heckfire, I was just lectured to in this very 1P5 forum by the author of a 500 page book on the 3rd secret saying that I was being rude for expressing that anyone who thought the 3rd secret had been made already was ignorant or a liar.
I personally met and went to the late Fatima expert Fr Fox’s home with my wife when he was at EWTN. He insisted the consecration had already been done and yet..Cardinal Burke says it still needs to be made..hmmmm.
Anytime POPE Benedict is ready to make the consecration we faithful will pray along but as we all know we need the Bishops to simultaneously make the consecration. We faithful can pray but that’s not part of the official request from our lady of this consecration. I’m not sure if there is still a chance for the chastisement to be averted but we could trust in our Lady and try.

THIS is what most of us Catholics last decades are so badly missing! But we still think that we are smart. And that ‘being smart’ is the best way to reach Heaven!?

That will take some degree of humility – a virtue that seems very scarce nowadays.
However what seems impossible is not to God. We need to pray and fast for the hierarchy of the Church.
In the Byzantine Catholic Tradition, St. Peter’s Fast aka the Apostles’ Fast is from the Monday after the Sunday of All Saints (Trinity Sunday on the Latin calendar) to June 28 inclusive. So this year St. Peter’s Fast is from June 12th to June 28th.
On the traditional Latin calendar, the Friday after Pentecost (June 9th this year) is an Ember Day (fasting) while on the Byzantine calendar the whole week after Pentecost (June 5th – 9th) is a general dispensation from fasting.
I know that most of the 1P5 family are RC, but if you can join your Byzantine Catholic brethren in keeping St. Peter’s Fast as well as your own Ember Day, the Church would be praying “with one voice and one heart” (c.f. Divine Liturgy).
I like this Margaret. I will try to comply but maybe fasting from stuff other than food. Not too good at that health wise. May I suggest to those who can’t do a food fast to consider an “electronic fast” to limit or give up the computer, i phone, TV. Hard but it can be done. I have done it. The other fast which believe it or not is way harder for me is to give up coffee.
Actually, that’s more in line with this Sticheron (stanza) from Cheesefare Wednesday (I.e. the week before Ash/Pure Wednesday:
In vain do you rejoice in not eating, O my soul!
For you abstain from food,
But from passions you are not purified.
If you have no desire for improvement,
You will be despised as a lie in the eyes of God,

If you persevere in sin, you will perform a useless fast.

That really packs a punch for me. It’s from the period of preparation for the Great Fast, but imho it’s appropriate for the other fasting days and seasons as well.
Btw, I tried giving up coffee one year for Lent and it was TOUGH. Another year I gave up chocolate and that was even WORSE. (I broke that one twice…).

That is so true! I can often go w/o lunch or breakfast on a busy day but when Ash Wednesday rolls around I seem to think of food constantly. Same thing with Friday abstention from meat. I can’t eat seafood so Friday means veg stir fry or grilled cheese or potato soup or some such. Oh do I miss meat but then I figure , hey it is meant to be a sacrifice so I tell myself “get over it” and do it joyfully. Uh not there yet but trying. Fasting from one’s passions is hard. Like not speaking one negative word when in conversation. Like the meat issue stil working on it. I gave up coffee and TV the month of May one year for Our Lady. Wish I had just continued it.
It would be nice if we had more authentic ‘Catholic’ Churchmen, that’s what we truly need.
One would think this would put to rest the controversy about whether or not the consecration has occurred or not. But of course it won’t.
Let’s say the consecration has already been done, just for the sake of argument. Why would an additional consecration be negative in any way?
That’s my thought too! After all, how many have been done to date consecrating the ‘world’ to her Immaculate Heart? MANY.
I would give a lot of money to have seen Jorge Bergoglio’s face as he read accounts of this speech. Some here at 1P5 say they saw evil in his face the night he first stepped out onto the papal balcony in 2013. My guess is that, upon reading Cardinal Burke’s words, he put on a face that made the 2013 scowl look positively angelic by comparison.

This is truly remarkable and courageous on the part of Cardinal Burke considering his past on the Fatima issue.
He has made an abrupt turn because he wrote the preface to Fr. Apostoli’s book Fatima for Today. The book was an attempt to prop up the party line on Fatima. That the consecration was complete and the Third Secret revealed. Cardinal Burke lent his name and writing to the Vatican secretary of state party line position on the Fatima message. Cardinal Burke in the preface called the Consecration of Russia and the Third Secret “controversies” that “distracted from Our Lady’s maternal instruction…”
I am glad that he has now reversed himself and had come to the truth on the consecration.
Perhaps his experiences in this these recent times have opened his eyes. I always feel that these statements by faithful clerics are always like the iceberg. They only speak the “top” and the rest of what they know but cannot speak lies under the frozen sea. I wish they would tell the whole story but I suppose they can’t for whatever reason. Nonetheless, bravo Cardinal Burke. How blessed we are to have him in these dark days.

So how should we interpret the CDF’s statement that the consecration of 1984 was done according to Our Lady’s request and that Sister Lucia had confirmed it? Is the CDF’s statement binding in anyway?
That was my first thought.
My suspicion here is that Fr. Amorth was correct. You can see these comments in context in my article from the other day (https://onepeterfive.wpengine.com/amidst-conflicting-fatima-secrets-a-clear-message-shines/) but it’s worth reproducing here at length:
Fr. Amorth was interviewed by Zavala in 2011, who kept the interview secret until after the exorcist’s death, publishing it for the first time in his book about Fatima. In the interview, Fr. Amorth relates — as he has done elsewhere — that he does not believe the consecration of the world by Pope John Paul II in 1984 was sufficient to satisfy the requirements set forth by Our Lady.
“There was no such consecration then,” he says. “I witnessed the act. I was in St. Peter’s Square that Sunday afternoon, very close to the Pope; so close, I could almost touch him.”
Pressed by Zavala on why he so forcefully believes that the consecration was not done, Fr. Amorth replied: “Very simple: John Paul II wanted to mention Russia expressly, but in the end he did not.”
Zavala pressed the issue with Fr. Amorth, saying that Sister Lucia herself (as mentioned above) had said that Heaven had accepted the consecration. He describes an incredulous reaction from Fr. Amorth. “Lucia said that…?” He asked. Zavala continues:
“Well, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone said it, in the year 2000, hiding behind a letter [escudándose en una carta] from Lucia dated November 1989, in which she stated that Heaven had admitted consecration in spite of one of the most important conditions.
“Have you seen that letter?” He asks, as if conducting a police interrogation in search of evidence.
“Never,” I say flatly.
“I do not think you’ll ever see it, because I’m convinced that Lucia did not write it.”
“How are you so sure of that?”
“Why didn’t Bertone show it when he should have, when he announced the Third Secret of Fatima? A simple photocopy of the manuscript, included in the official dossier of the Vatican, would have been sufficient to dispel any doubt. If the Vatican has always been scrupulous in providing the documentary proof that authenticated the information by Lucia on minor matters, what reason would they have to skimp on the only documentary evidence that, according to Bertone, validated a fact that without doubt was of as much importance as the consecration performed By John Paul II?
“Yes, it’s weird,” I admit.
“You really think Lucia took five years to write that the consecration had been truly accepted? And that Bertone waited no less than sixteen years to announce the validity of something so crucial as the consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary?” Father Amorth’s voice sounds like dry leaves.
“It’s all very strange, in truth.” I nod again.
“Moreover,” he adds, “if the consecration of the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary made by Pius XII in 1942 was only partially accepted [because he did not specifically mention Russia – ed], for Jesus said that in view of it the war would only be shortened rather than finished immediately, why would He now change his mind with John Paul II, if Russia was not mentioned on this occasion?”
“It would be an incongruity, yes.”
“Rather.”
“So…?”
“I have no doubt that the consecration did not occur in the terms required by the Virgin. But we must not lose sight of what she herself wanted to tell us through Lucia: ‘In the end My Heart Immaculate will triumph. The Holy Father will consecrate Russia to me and it will become, granting itself to the world A time of peace’…”
The interview digresses here from the topic of Fatima, but Zavala returns to it again later:
“Forgive me for insisting on the Third Secret of Fatima: Did Padre Pio relate it, then, to the loss of faith within the Church?”
Fr. Gabriele furrows his brow and sticks out his chin. He seems very affected.
“Indeed,” he states, “One day Padre Pio said to me very sorrowfully: ‘You know, Gabriele? It is Satan who has been introduced into the bosom of the Church and within a very short time will come to rule a false Church.’”
“Oh my God! Some kind of Antichrist! When did he prophesy this to you?” I [Zavala] ask.
“It must have been about 1960, since I was already a priest then.”
“Was that why John XXIII had such a panic about publishing the Third Secret of Fatima, so that the people wouldn’t think that he was the anti-pope or whatever it was …?”
A slight but knowing smile curls the lips of Father Amorth.
“Did Padre Pio say anything else to you about future catastrophes: earthquakes, floods, wars, epidemics, hunger …? Did he allude to the same plagues prophesied in the Holy Scriptures?”
“Nothing of the sort mattered to him, however terrifying they proved to be, except for the great apostasy within the Church. This was the issue that really tormented him and for which he prayed and offered a great part of his suffering, crucified out of love.”
“The Third Secret of Fatima?”
“Exactly.”
“Is there any way to avoid something so terrible, Fr. Gabriele?”
“There is hope, but it’s useless if it’s not accompanied by works. Let us begin by consecrating Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, let us recite the Holy Rosary, let us all do prayer and penance …”
CDF statement is not binding in anyway. Sr. Lucy confirmed it? where is the proof? A computer generated letter years after the fact is not proof. Sr. Lucy let her thoughts on the subject be known publicly in the 1985 interview for Sol de Fatima magazine. A publication of the Spanish Blue Army. She said that the consecration of Russia had not yet been done properly, because Russia was not mentioned in the 1984 consecration, and all the bishops of the world did not participate. This was a public interview done before she was forbidden by the Vatican and CDF to speak in public. These so called letters came after she had been silenced.

“In the end my Immaculate Heart will triumph AND Russia will be consecrated…” Some are saying that Our Lady’s triumph will come first because the consecration of Russia and its conversion will ‘come late’.
As far as this little mind can tell, the ‘entrustment’ of St. JPII was accepted but because it was only partial, only a partial response came from heaven. And the Church is certainly not in a place where ‘all’ the bishops of the world would agree to make the consecration of Russia even if this present pope would care to do it.
The problem with a “partial” acceptance is that if you believe that, you then have to believe something along the lines of what Cdl. Coccopalmerio said the other day, as noted by Fr. Z.:
“Coccopalmerio characterized the Church’s teaching on the question of Anglican orders as follows: “We have had, and we still have a very rigid understanding of validity and invalidity: this is valid, and that is not valid. One should be able to say: ‘this is valid in a certain context, and that is valid another context’.”

I think the black and white applies here. Russia has not been consecrated. If everyone gets a trophy, the trophy has no meaning. In a very straightforward way, PJPII seems to have simply lacked the courage to do what was asked. It just looks like that. And to either some degree or all degree, it is simply that: a clear failure to comply.
In fact, the spirit of compromise, isn’t it this exact type of negotiation? The equivocating and deal making with evil for some said greater good?
Isn’t that the very essence of false ecumenism which goes so far as to say that unmarried and cohabitating couples have some form of marriage and are not entirely devoid of the grace of a true marriage?
Accepting the partial consecration of Russia is essentially the same problematic issue of accepting “partially valid” Anglican orders and recognizing the “grace of marriage” in unmarried cohabitating couples. It’s all the same dictatorship of relativism.
“Partial” obedience, in God’s sight, is really “disobedience.”
Not so. First, the revelation of the Third Secret of Fatima (NOT the vision, but the exact words of Our Lady which follow: “In Portugal, the dogma of the Faith will always be preserved…),
2) The Collegial Consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary by the Holy Father in union with all the bishops of the world. If he commands them to make it under pain of excommunication latae sentiae (automatically), you’ll see how fast they’ll do it.
3) The Triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

It is also worth noting that Fr Malachi Martin said that if the 3rd secret was released all the Churches would be full and confession lines long. Father Gruner said it would stop the modernists in their tracks. Clearly this did not happen in 2000 so something is missing.

No, Burke is talking past Francis and addressing the Church as a whole, here. He is laying out his thesis and giving his diagnosis of the cause of the Church’s current malaise. He sees the Church’s miserable response to Our Lady’s specific requests as being central to our current problems and so do I. Vatican II is the favorite culprit among faithful Catholics but Vatican II is really a symptom of the problem, rather than the problem. Burke might disagree with me here but we got Vatican II and its disastrous sequelae because we blew off Our Lady’s requests at Fatima; the Consecration was not done, the Third Secret was stuffed away in a cupboard and forgotten in 1960. John XXIII thought he knew better than Our Lady but he was wrong and Vatican II was a train wreck.
The Consecration of Russia was a litmus test of our fidelity to Jesus and His Blessed Mother and we blew it, big time. Now the problem has come to a head with the installation of a faithless rogue in the Chair of Peter.
Absolutely my friend. The Church and the world has suffered a withdrawal of grace since 1960, to paraphrase the late Fr Malachi Martin. This will not be restored until the consercration. The 3rd secret details the consequences of not doing the consecration – the “bad council” “bad mass” the “pope” “under the control of satan’ and the rise of the false church, which prepares the way for the great apostasy and eventually Antichrist. Our Lady’s consercration will grant us a period of peace and grace before the end. Our choice as a race is to either bring it forward now or later with much suffering and likely loss of souls.
MalachyBernard, The Graces from God have always been available to us but people my age never knew about them. The Modernists robbed us of God’s Truth and His Graces. When I became a Traditionalist I found that the Church founded by Christ has many treasures available to us. Modernists condemned those treasures as being “Pre-Vatican ll and no longer valid”, they lied to us, they programmed us to believe that anything before the Council was condemned by the Church. Many good Catholics are still living in this modernist bondage.
The particular graces are conditional in this case. The Church is the channel of grace and it will not recover until it complies. Listen to what Malachi Martin says about John XXIII in his interviews with Bernard Janzen – “faith has been withdrawn” since 1960 – this is precisely what Sister Lucy meant when she said it would become clearer by then. How does a prophecy become clearer? It begins to be fulfilled. As for modernism this is simply the bad fruit of our collective disobedience – both a cause of apostasy and effect of disobedience.
If only I had known what sin is and that it endangered my soul to eternal loss. If only I knew that Jesus was truly present in the Blessed Sacrament. If only I knew that there was an absolute moral law. If only I knew of Our Lady’s Maternal love for us. If only I knew of the treasure of the Papacy as Christ founded it. If only I knew what the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass was. If only I knew of the power of the Sacraments, sacramental’s, indulgences, prayers for the deceased etc… This is what I meant by my generation never having known this because of the Modernists experiments and heresies. Today we would have been better Catholics.
I know your pain my friend. I did not know what a mortal sin was until I was at university. This is the time God has placed us to save our souls. We need to strengthen each other in the Faith and be grateful for the graces that so many others lack.
MalachyBernard, Thank you. I did not know that mortal sin is what would cast us into hell. At age 17, 41 years ago I read the book “Fatima In Lucia’s Own Words” The July 13,1917 vision of hell shown by Our Lady to the Children caused me to turn my whole life around. After reading that part I immediately set myself to study what it is that offends God, then I made a General Confession. That was the hardest thing I ever did in my life, I dreaded telling the priest all my past sins. When I finished the priest said that God forgives me and then gave me Absolution. It turned out to be the greatest day of my life. When I went to Fatima on my first pilgrimage the tour guide pointed out where the vision of hell was seen. I strongly sensed that, that was to be my eternal home if not for Our Lady of Fatima. After so many years of Catechism classes and we were never told the Truth. Sadly today in my parish the Truth is still withheld from all Catechism students. The Modernist heresy!!
As things currently stand, for Francis to summon the world’s bishops to join with him in the collegial consecration of Russia will require a miracle of equal, or greater magnitude than the Miracle of the Sun. But unless a sufficient number of the laity respond in some measure to Our lady’s requests, we can be certain that not a great deal will happen.
Not “we”, not unless you’re in the hierarchy of the Church. We faithful have the things we can do (rosary, scapular, first saturday devosions, etc) but thiis consecration was all on the hierarchy of the Church. There is even a trend I noticed last week where they now want to blame our Lady and or blame the faithful. No Way, this was solely on the top of the Church to do and they blew it.
Let’s dovetail the last three articles on 1P5 re: Fatima and try to figure out what Our Lady has been trying desperately to accomplish through her willful, disobedient children: First, re: Dr. Heseman, Fatima expert, on his take of Sr. Lucia’s interpretation of the Third Secret (points of which Steve mentions in his article as well), “We know that she (Sr. Lucia) was sure there would have been a nuclear war in 1985 which was only prevented by the consecration of Russia and the World to the Immaculate Heart of Our Lady on 25 March 1984.” Now, I believe this to be true. Look at the timeline. JPII, by his own admission, did not pay much attention to Fatima until after he was almost assassinated on May 13, 1981 (an attempt we now know was called by the Russian Communists. As a side note, I sure would like to know if the Communists knew the significance of that date when they ordered the assassination! ) At any rate, I envision Our Lady, seeing the machinations of the Communists and an impending nuclear war, desperate to have Russia consecrated to her Immaculate Heart and her son’s ministers utterly failing for DECADES to do so, finally getting the Vicar of Christ’s attention by sparing his life. On the Feast of the Assumption March 25, 1984 the ‘consecration’ is offered, like a fistful of dandelions, to our beleaguered Mother, who graciously accepts it though it is woefully lacking and not what she asked for. It is enough however, to perhaps not convert Russia and usher in the Triumph of Her Immaculate Heart and a reign of peace! but to at least avoid the nuclear war Sr. Lucia said would have surely happened. On May 13, 1984, just 6 weeks after the consecration, AS ONE OF THE LARGEST CROWDS IN FATIMA HISTORY gathers to pray the Rosary for peace, an explosion at the Soviets’ Severomorsk Naval Base destroys two-thirds of all the missiles stockpiled for the Soviets’ Northern Fleet ON THE SAME DAY! The blast also destroys workshops needed to maintain the missiles, as well as killing hundreds of scientists and technicians. Western military experts called it the worst naval disaster the Soviet Navy has suffered since WWII. By December of that year the Soviet Defense Minister, mastermind of the invasion plans for Western Europe, suddenly and mysteriously dies, and before the 1 year anniversary of the consecration is even reached, Soviet Chairman Chernenko dies and Gorbachev is elected. Coincidence? I don’t think so. Our Heavenly Father is all about timing. He has left us so many breadcrumbs through the centuries re: timing it is staggering. Just imagine what Our Mother could accomplish if Russia were truly and completely consecrated to Her Immaculate Heart?? Team Burke!!!!!

This came from Fr. Paul Kramer, quoting the ubiquitous “anonymous sources”, so I personally would not be prepared to stake my life on the veracity of it. He quoted his “anonymous source” who, he claimed was present when this exchange between Francis and Putin occurred. How many would have been present, I wonder? And if this got back to Francis, it would be ridiculously easy to identify that particular “anonymous source”. I watched a video of him making this allegation; he was in a bar or restaurant somewhere in Rome, with a large glass of vino in his hand. He claims that, when Putin asked about the Consecration of Russia, Francis retorted that; “We don’t talk about Fatima around here” or words to that effect. Frankly, it doesn’t have the ring of truth, to my way of thinking.
It can be frustrating these references to anonymous sources, but sometimes it is necessary. I am personally in favor of Fr Kramer’s work since his sources in the past have checked out. For example long before it was reported by this site an others, Frs Kramer and Gruner I believe were referring to a Ratzinger source who commented that the 3rd secret referred to the bad mass and council. We now know this was none other than Father Dollenger who has been frequently mentioned here. If you do various google searches with the right key words, you will find various articles Fr Kramer has written for the Fatima Crusader on http://www.fatima.org One striking article written in the time of JPII he writes of the 3rd secret, he says that the great apostasy will be formalized by an antipope during the immediate successor of JPII. This was years before we saw Benedict XVI on the balcony and long before most of us heard about Jorge Bergoglio. Something to consider.
Yes, I take your point, and in times past Fr. Kramer has provided us with a great many of his valuable insights. But I do get the impression that in recent times, he has become rather, may I say … erratic? When I watched the video in which he made this allegation, I formed the subjective impression of someone who was possibly headed for a breakdown. But who knows? We are living in very, very strange times.
Indeed they are strange and evil times. I have not seen his recent videos (only audio). I know he has been in a running battle with Sisco et al regarding the status of Francis and what to do vis-a-vis Benedict. I will say this – if Benedict wants Francis to have a free hand at the papacy and not raise any questions, he is doing Francis no favors by hanging around the Vatican dressed in white. Benedict is an intelligent man who understands the power of symbols. Something is going on here.

Excuse me, and no offense meant to you, but what is perverse in what he says? His language is colloquial, but it is in no way offensive or vulgar. Scolding and squashing his honest joy at recognition of a truth is over-much. I’m “old” in earthly years, and I remember all too many times through the decades when slapping-down playfulness was equated with holiness. It is not. My favorite scene in Gibson’s “Passion of the Christ” is Mary playing with Jesus as He worked on a table for a fine man, mugging and faking being seated in an invisible chair as if She were a very great person, then Her holding a basin of water for Jesus to cleanse His hands after work on said table before a meal…..and He with a greatly impish look on His face splashing the water into Hers. Delightful moment, full of joy. Methinks Brian’s “WOW!” is something like this spontaneous moment. I cannot imagine me meant a shred of disrespect.

According to Fr. John de Marchi, IMC, the author of the book, “The True Story of Fatima,” St. Pope John Paul II consecrated the “world” to Our Lady of Fatima in 1982, 1984, 1991 and 2000. Though numerous graces were obtained for the world due to these consecrations, they still do not fulfill what Our Lady has requested. Thus it is useful to review Sister Lucia’s consistent testimony regarding Our Lady’s request that the Pope, in union with all the bishops of the world consecrate Russia to her Immaculate Heart.
I guess I don’t get the ‘repetitive’ consecrations. I can understand him wanting to consecrate the ‘world’ to her, but adding and naming Russia also (which he didn’t do), but if he truly thought they were validly accomplished the way he carried them out, why FOUR times?

Along the lines of strange things happening all of a sudden… A couple of weeks ago, I asked our pastor if we might do something in the parish to promote the Five First Saturdays devotion. He said that he was planning catechesis on the Nine First Fridays devotion, but that we might consider the FFS devotion after that.
At first, I deferred to his leadership and his plans, but then I began to think, “Wait a minute! This is, after all, the Centenary of Fatima… AND … Our bishop has called for a diocesan Marian Year through the end of the liturgical year. … AND … We have Daily Mass every weekday *but* Friday in our parish! [We have but one priest, and we share him with a distant parish.] Why promote precisely the devotion that *cannot* be fulfilled, at the moment, in our own parish?”
I’m thinking of bringing up the subject with our pastor for just these reasons. I do find him approachable, and a *very* good priest otherwise. Any thoughts?

Had another thought. Get people and friends to give you big prayer back up before you see him. Also, I’d call on your Guardian Angel to go to his Guardian Angel to lay the groundwork.
St. Francis de Sales used to invoke the aid of all the Guardian Angels of the people to whom he would be preaching, so that the people would be open to the grace of God and come back to the Faith.
I would be very very kind in asking and accept his reasons for waiting if he still says no. He may simply not be able to do it right now.

Smart move by Cardinal Burke. Perfect timing. Let us all sign the petition and hope for the best but be prepared for a gobbledygook statement from the Vatican indicating that this has already been done and, if done again, would just stir up Geo-political tensions.
In interviews which Sr. Lucia with Filipino Cardinal Ricardo Vidal, Archbishop Emeritus of Cebu, in October 1993, and the late John Haffert, founder of the World Apostolate of Fatima in May 1999, referring to the consecration of Russia, she stated that “People expect things to happen immediately within their own time frame, but Fatima is still in its third day.” Fatima is an ongoing process. (These interviews were recorded and are therefore verifiable). Fatima is still in its third day. We are now in the post-Consecration period. The first day was the apparition period. The second day was the the post-apparition, pre-Consecration period. The Fatima week has not yet ended. I may not get to see the whole week. The Fatima week has just begun. How can one expect it to be over immediately?”
In a letter to Sr. Mary of Bethlehem, dated August 29 1989, Sr. Lucia wrote; [The] Supreme Pontiff, John Paul II wrote to all the bishops of the world asking them to unite with him. He sent for the statue of Our lady of Fatima to be taken to Rome, and on March 25 1984, publicly and with the bishops who wanted to unite with his Holiness, made the consecration as Our Lady requested. They then asked me if it was made as Our Lady requested, and I said “Yes”. Now it was made.”
To Fr. Robert Fox; July 3 1990: I come to answer your question; If the Consecration made by Pope John Paul II on March 25 1984 in union with all the bishops of the world accomplished the conditions for the consecration of Russia according to the requests of Our Lady in Tuy on June 13th. 1929. Yes, it was accomplished, and since then I have said that it was made. And I say that no other person responds for me. It is I who receive and open all letters and respond to them.”
The authenticity of these letters has long been disputed on the grounds that they were type written. But according to Sr. Lucia;s religious superior, Sr. Maria Celina de Jesus Crucificado in “Our Memories of Sister Lucia” : Sister Lucia was offered an electronic typewriter when she was already over 70 years of age; (circa 1986). and [she] had no difficulty in learning how to use it. It was a computerized machine which, however, was never connected to the internet …..”
Sr. Lucia confirmed that the 1984 consecration prevented a nuclear war from breaking out in 1985. On May 13 1984, a massive explosion destroyed much of a Soviet naval base at Severomorsk. Many nuclear missiles and submarines were destroyed, and hundreds of personnel were killed. Coinciding with this, the Warsaw pact countries had embarked on the largest troop mobilisation ever seen for what were described a ‘exercises’. It had long been known that the Soviets had an invasion plan for Western Europe that would see the Red Army cross the Rhine and reach the Atlantic coast within three weeks, and it was feared that these exercises would cease to be such, and become the real thing. The Severomorsk explosion stopped it. Marshal Ustinov, commanding the Warsaw Pact forces, was recalled to Moscow for consultation, and six months later, he was dead. The Soviets shelved their invasion plans.
Just a few years later, the Soviet Union was formally dissolved. According to Sr. Lucia, the restoration of religious liberty in post Soviet Russia was brought about by the consecration of 1984. But it is Jesus’ desire that the world should understand that this change in Russia was brought about by the intercession of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and it is for the Church to make this known to the world. The Church must promote the Message of Fatima and Our Lady’s requests with ever greater zeal, especially as it pertains to the [First Saturday] Communions of Reparation.
If, as Sr. Lucia stated, we are still in the “post-Consecration” third day of the Fatima week, what about the remainder of the week? We can safely assume that the seventh day will be the Era of Peace. But what about days four, five and six? What awaits us because the Church has been woefully remiss in promoting the Message of Fatima. We face the very real threat of an intended Islamic conquest of the post-Christian West. There is the real possibility of the Church being torn apart by schism. And the real possibility, if not likelihood of a tyrannical global government launching an all-out bloody persecution of the Church that will make all previous persecutions look tame by comparison. Maybe this is what is depicted in the vision of the Third Secret ad the “bishop dressed in white”?
So, it could be with this in mind that Cardinal Burke and others are petitioning for the Consecration of Russia. They are not denying that it has been done, and it has produced marvelous effects. But the Church has still not done enough, and this involves the whole church – all of us. His eminence quoted Pope St. John Paul II as saying; “Mary’s appeal is not for just once. Her appeal must be taken up by generation after generation, in accordance with the ever new ‘signs of the times’. It must be increasingly returned to. It must be taken up anew.” I shudder to think what pitiful state we must be brought to before we, the Church, do take it up anew.

Thank you, but may I expand just a little. As we know, “Immaculate Heart of Mary” is no mere title; it defines the fullness of just who, and what Mary is in the economy of salvation. As She stood beneath the Cross, her Immaculate Heart was commissioned as the depository and dispensary of all graces. It was at this point that She became the Mediatrix of All Grace; (the One who is All Grace being, of course, her Divine Son. Jesus). This role was not conferred upon her by singular privilege; She earned it by her perfect conformity with the Will of God from the instant of Her conception until her very last breath on earth. What Mary, the Mother of Sorrows, endured throughout her entire earthly life, but most of all on Calvary is comprehensible to God alone. According to Abbot Prosper Gueranger: “Such were the sufferings of Mary on Calvary that, were they to be shared equally among all creatures capable of suffering, they would be sufficient to cause all to die instantly.” (And by “all creatures” one must assume this includes everyone from Adam to the last one ever to be born). And this is surely why Jesus told Belgian mystic Berthe Petit in 1914; “Recourse to My Mother under the title I wish for Her universally, [Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary] is the last help I shall give before the end of the world.
Many great saints have been of the belief that the world will not see peace until Mary is accorded BY THE CHURCH that which is her due, and this was also the view of the great Belgian Cardinal Mercier.
This is what Fatima is all about! Heaven is demanding that the Church should now make known to the world everything that has been revealed to her about Mary and her role in the economy of salvation. And the world will not know peace; the peace promised to us at Fatima, until this is done. Yet here we are, at this late hour, with the world going to hell in a hand basket, yet still far to many in the Church show a complete indifference, or even antipathy, towards Fatima. Because they simply don’t understand it, and have no desire to change that. But understand it they will. And the learning process will not be pleasant. In the meantime, the whole world continues to suffer because of it.
Stewart Davies, I have heard many explanations but what you give covers volumes in brief. If only the Church would teach and heed what you say.
Cardinal Burke said: “…we hear the call of Our Lady of Fatima to consecrate Russia to her Immaculate Heart, in accord with her EXPLICIT (emphasis mine) instruction.” That has not been done according the the earliest comments of Sister Lucy. . Either Sister Lucy told the truth earlier or later – can’t be both. I pick the early explanation – apparently so does Cardinal Burke.
Sister Lucia was right, and so is Cardinal Burke. The world was given a huge reprieve in 1984, but the Church, for the most part, failed to understand and to capitalise on it. From that point, the Church should have been proclaiming the glories of Mary to the world, and urging all the faithful to accede to Our Lady’s requests. But sadly a veil had descended over the eyes of far too many, especially the hierarchy. We are such slow learners, and only a series of very painful lessons will educate us.
Any Consecration will have some good effects. Our Lord’s goodness will see to that. And of course there were some very good effects of the 1984 consecration to the world. But the particular effects promised by Our Lady were not among them. It seems to me self-evident that the Consecration to Russia has not been done.

Sister Lucia, steeped in the Holy Scripture as a contemplative monastic, a daughter of St. Teresa of Jesus, surely had this mindset. It would be helpful to all of us to adopt it, particularly in the face of the current situation. It provides a context and a perspective
which makes the current scourge somewhat more bearable.
Setting our own time frame is a trap many of us repeatedly fall into. I personally am thankful for the wisdom of such as Sr. Lucia for reminding me that my own expectations, based upon limited knowledge and distorted understanding are far removed from the mind of God.
Stewart Davies, Again you go straight to the truth. So many times we expect God to do things our way within our time frame. Many times we forget what God said in the OT, “Man my ways are not your ways and your ways are not my ways”. Some of us still don’t seem to get it. Thank God we had Sr. Lucia to guide us through the process of Peace.
When I first read the news that Cardinal Raymond Burke called for the consecration of Russia I was greatly perturbed. But as I read on, Cardinal Burke states that the 1984 consecration was in fact valid. He uses the words of St. John Paul The Great that the consecration can be done more than once. With the consecration of 1984, we blew it big time. We didn’t live the consecration, we failed the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. With all the quibbling that it was not done and with those of us who did not live the consecration, we caused great damage to the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Of course the text of another consecration will have to be approved by the theorists or it too will be claimed invalid. I hope the Holy Father who makes the consecration again will say Russia a thousand times, then it might be considered valid, But I’m sure their will be something wrong. We must follow Cardinal Burke’s instructions that we live the message of Fatima or another consecration will have to be made and then another and another. Its up to us to bring the Triumph of Our Lady.
Remember the priests in Hiroshima who were miraculously spared any damage or suffering after the terrible atomic explosion? Their only explanation: “we were living the messages of Fatima.”
Said by the German, Fr.Hubert Schiffner who was……a Jesuit! Immediately before that line, he had said, “In that house the rosary was prayed every day.” As Sr.Lucia herself remarked in 1977, “Our Lady will protect all her dear ones.”

Wait a minute … I am so very confused …. why is a prominent Cardinal calling for the Consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary? The pastor at my church personally assured all the ladies at the women’s retreat that it had been done years ago. Why, oh why, would the esteemed Cardinal call for it to be done a second time?
I believe what we have here is called a “truth bomb” in modern-day parlance.
I really hate to think or say this, but will the next headline we read be about Cardinal Burke having a heart attack and dying peacefully in his sleep (of the Judge Scalia variety) or an unfortunate auto accident (of the Michael Hastings variety) or a blotched robbery attempt (of the Seth Rich variety)? Or will he be simply demoted?
Scowls, snide remarks/ insults and character attacks by proxies have not been effective in silencing the Cardinal.
What Cardinal Burke has done is an act of true courage. I cannot begin to say how very encouraged I am by this report and by his comments. Finally, someone in the clergy speaks truth to power. I fear he will pay a steep price for daring to defy Francis (and going far beyond the Dubia in impact/ effect). This man needs our prayers.

I’m very glad Cardinal Burke has said this, and I will pray for his safety. However, he really should have corrected the Pope by now.

I still “strongly” disagree with this re-hashing about Russia’s Consecration to Mary. After St. John Paul II’s desire for consecration, the USSR broke apart and has not been rebuilt. Isn’t that a material sign that the consecration was taken to God’s Divine Will whether or not it was voiced vocally?
A public consecration, by its very nature, is vocal and audible. If it is not vocal, it is not public. The explicit mention of Russia is the first requirement because Russia is the object of consecration. The second requirement that must be met is the consecration by every single bishop.

That is the real pinch. How many of them even believe?
The solution is simple. Every bishop must be ordered to do the consecration under the pain of excommunication for failure to do so. Very few bishops would refuse given a direct order. Those few who would refuse, would be excommunicated and removed from office not affecting the requiremet of Our Lady.
Doubtless a reasonable solution, but unlikely Francis would utilize it for anything other than inter-communion with Lutherans or some such nonsense.

What gets me is that in 1984 when JP II supposedly consecrated Russia, he specifically said:
““Enlighten especially the peoples of which You Yourself are awaiting Our consecration and confiding.”
Well, let us apply that liberal art of logic that was taught to Catholics back in the Age of Faith. If the Pope says that Russia is still awaiting consecration, it must therefore be due to the fact that he HAD NOT consecrated Russia. Oh, if only the Trivium was still taught in schools.

Comrades, the situation grows darker by the day. Rorate Caeli’s report of the Pope’s rant yesterday is – well, let’s put it like this: has there been in the entire history of the Church a more astonishing statement from a Pope?
Incredibly, he calls to conversion those who love and would safeguard the Church’s teaching. He calls them ideologues, in conflict with the Magisterium and the Holy Ghost (NB! Please note that he includes the Holy Ghost as an operator separate from the past Papal, Conciliar and Ordinary Magisterium. This of course allows him, like some shamanic interpreter of a chicken’s entrails, to be the sole adept to the thinking of the Holy Ghost. In other words, to make it up as he goes along).
From an arch-heretic such as Calvin or a demoniac such as Madame Blavatsky, one could understand the invective. But from a Pope?!?
He sounds worried to me, preoccupied with the fact that Vatican II and its (devilish) spirit has not entirely killed off those who hold to the Catholic Faith, which means that his revolution will not pass unfought.

I think — think — Fr. Hunwicke is presenting an argument that “holds water” in terms of canonical procedure, and in doing so is exposing it as inadequate to the situation at hand. It is a bit counterintuitive — the Oxford crew can have an odd sense of humor.
I’ve been reading this man for a few years now. There is nothing to undermine my confidence in his intellectual competence at all. He is brilliant, holy and full of common sense. He is crafting something beyond what is iimmediately apparent.

I didn’t read Fr. Humwicke’s remarks the way you do (or as carefully). If what you say is true, he has an obligation to speak more clearly and not like the man he is defending. Brushing it off as Oxford humor is charitable of you, but in context I don’t get it. I agree he is brilliant and (usually) makes sense, but he has written what he has written and, without more it doesn’t read too well to me.

Whoever is studying for a way to depose the beast had better put it in high gear and get on with it. Cardinal Burke has stalled long enough to embolden the heretics to the point where they now think they can say anything and not be challenged. does remind me of the stock character sometimes seen in science fiction movies of a bygone age – the miscalculating scientist who believes it preferable to reason with the terror before him rather than taking the opportunity to terminate it. He always ends up brutalized and on the floor, but all the more enlightened after the assault. Reason must always be operative, but some situations require it to be coupled with calculated force.
He concludes with an idea that I’ve entertained. That the cavalier engagement Francis and his cartel have used to undermine the Magisterium of his predecessors will enable his successor to “dump” Francis’s catastrophe. “He has already pretty well sawn off the branch he is sitting on.”
Hard to hold on to that notion while the whole forest in engulfed in flames.

I found his remarks in this homily astounding. I don’t know why more people aren’t discussing it. Maybe it’s simply because they’re thinking, “More of this again?”
One thing I noticed is that when he is attacking Burke, et al., who are clearly the target here, he instead describes *himself* to a ‘tee’ and what *he* should be doing:

What does he mean when he says that some are “fanatics about things that are not clear”? Which things are not clear? Is he referring to whether it is permissible to give Holy Communion to a “re-married” divorcee? Because the Church’s teaching on that question is, in fact, very clear.
Please pay for Francis, Maradiaga, etc. and pray the Rosary EVERY DAY. It’s something I’m trying hard to do, especially during this 100th anniversary of Our Lady’s appearances at Fatima. I’ve heretofore been praying the Rosary about every other day, but that is NOT what Our Lady requests of us.

We do not know if Pope Benedict resigned validly, even if he has say so. In case of invalidity, Francis is Pope as long as he is not disputed by Benedict, because of “common error” and supplied jurisdiction, but Benedict retains the power to resume the acts of papacy. An act of consecration would be one such case.
It’s more complicated than simply having the Pope perform the consecration; until the bishops of the world cooperate, it will be only marginally effective, if at all. They have been the problem from the beginning and until the rebellious bishops are expelled or otherwise brought to heel, they will continue to be so.
Pray for the conversion of their hearts and their salvation…the blood of the millions of innocents lost to abortion (one of Russians “errors spread throughout the world”) is on their hands.
The Pope who initially turned down the request to consecrate Russia was John XXIII. In fact, he read the secret and chose not to instead, inviting Communists to the Vatican and thus, the beginning of ‘Ecumenism’ as we now know it. Another great Fatima expert is John Salza who spoke at our church last Sunday. He also told us that the consecration was not done as our Lady requested. I’m glad that Cardinal Burke speaking out about the Fatima consecration.
Wonderful, wonderful news! Us the lay people can help by wearing the scapular, praying the rosary, making frequent confessions, and by writing a letter to Rome requesting that the consecration is made.
One wonders if Bergoglio’s alignment with the Climate Change crowd is marginally influenced by what he knows about the Fatima Secret. These naturalists may be just vain enough to think that such politically driven policies may forestall the long time Vatican hinting at nature rebelling against humanity.
Cardinal Burke has spent the past year or so preaching to the choir. He needs to reveal what he knows about (1) the St. Galen pre 2013 Conclave meeting where the progressives with the Red Hats selected Bergoglio (with B’s alleged approval) as their candidate to back in the Conclave itself (thus nullifying the Bergoglian election according to the rules established by John Paul II); (2) reveal the reception from the world-wide episcopate of his and the three other Cardinal’s submission of the dubia (thus revealing the horrible extent of the present apostasy among the successors of the Apostles); (3) admit publicly that the post-conciliar Church has been a grand failure and that it must return to its pre-conciliar ecclesial structure and discipline buttressed by the theology and philosophy that shaped the Church’s history for 2000 years (and admit that he himself is guilty of cooperating with the post-conciliar Revolt against Catholic Tradition and explain in detail why he has seen the light).
He will be marginalized even further and possibly lose his ecclesial perks. But many a priest has suffered the same and more for 50 years while he was advancing (he never objected to and/or openly fought the abandonment of scholasticism in seminary education and formation, the expansion of the role of the laity in the sanctuary resulting in the visual horizantilism which has diminished the unique role of the ordained priest, Communion in the hand, altar girls, etc, etc., etc.).
I applaud his calling for the Consecration of Russia. But will he admit that the Vatican (with the connivance of the future Pope Benedict) deliberately misled Catholics in 2000 when the allegedly “full” Secret was published?
Bottom line: 50 years of creeping Modernism must be rejected by him and as many other Prelates as he can muster. Any other path will lead to compromise; Athanasius would never compromise with the Arians. There can be no compromise with the synthesis of all heresies.
Bottom line: let’s stop tip-toeing through the tulips.
My quote may not be exact but didn’t the Virgin Mary say that “All will seem lost but ultimately my immaculate heart will triumph”. Maybe this refers to the faith being lost. Cardinal Burke speaking up again shows that he will not lie down.

Christopher, Yes definitely I agree, there are many Catholics pleasing to God, be they Cardinals, Bishops, Priests, Religious or Laity. The persecution of the good is upon us. One example are the Franciscans of the Immaculate founded by Fr. Manelli whose parents are “Servants of God”, as their cause for canonization is in process. Many good Catholics spoke out against the persecution against them, giving the Franciscans of the Immaculate a great consolation. We must defend all the good Catholics in the Church whether Modernists like it or not. And we are doing it with our comments on sites like 1P5 and other sites. I have read many times that there are those Modernists in Rome keeping a careful watch of these sites only for the purpose of destroying or discrediting us.
This was a very powerful statement by Cardinal Burke prehaps one of his most powerful statements which I am sure will get Pope Francis’ attention.

Let me apply some perspective to this event with my personal presence next to the Vatican on the Piazza Risorgimento at Fr. Gruner’s Fatima Center office on Monday – June 26, 2000.
In the 2PM hour, ‘Bruno’ the Belgian journalist walked in and said his three English words ‘Hey mericun howzit?’ He then proceeded to converse in Italian with the manager Alessandro Fuligni, so I offered to get some drinks for the three of us. When I returned, Bruno was leaving and bid me ‘Ciao’ as he headed out the door.
Alessandro spent several minutes typing on the computer and checking his written notes. Finally turning to me he held out a single sheet with the admonition “This should answer a lot of questions.” I read and re-read it several times, knowing that I would repeat the contents at some future date.

So, in two sentences the Cardinal rather deftly explained the situation and the solution being pursued by the Vatican. Your readers are naturally interested to know his name – Joseph Aloisius Cardinal Ratzinger.

By this means they will be converted to the Holy Roman Catholic faith and Pope Francis’ successor will then be able to Consecrate Russia to the Immaculate Heart and the Russians will also be converted to Holy Mother Church.
Thereafter, we ALL shall finally enjoy:
“. . . a certain period of peace (which) will be granted to the world.”
