On Monday we published our latest data-based travel report on "The Best Hotel Loyalty Programs in the World." As always, reports like these, which rank companies, always provoke some debate. But based on the feedback we've gotten thus far, readers do not seem to think that we misrepresented any specific programs.

Best Hotel Loyalty Programs

TPG readers were generally impressed with the depth of the report and the transparency in our methodology. However, if there was one question that came up the most, it was how we chose the brands labelled "economical." Our lead writer on this report, Nick Ewen, explained the decision this way in response to a query about not including Four Points as an SPG economy brand...

"As far as economical brands, we tried to focus mainly on those brands without extensive 'paid' extras and with relatively consistent room types (e.g. little to no room for upgrades, complimentary breakfast/Wi-Fi for all guests, etc.). I've stayed in many a Four Points, and while not the lap of luxury, the brand still is more of a mid-tier one given what it offers (bar/restaurant, no free breakfast, etc.)"

Of course, when we publish these reports we like to give readers a chance to weigh in by using our interactive tool. If the availability of economical rooms is more or less important to you, you can use the tool to change how much we weighted that particular criterion, and set it higher or lower than we did to reflect your own preferences.

Another way we gauge the opinions of our TPG readership is by reaching out to you for your own thoughts and opinions. So if you visit our Facebook page or use the embedded poll below, you'll find a list of the 10 hotel loyalty programs we included in this study. Vote for your favorite program (just one vote) and we'll publish the results in an upcoming post.

And if you'd like to share specifics about why you think one hotel loyalty program is the best (or the worst), let us know in the comments below, and we'll include some of the best quotes when we report our poll results.
