Teaser Trailer: Disney’s Live-Action “Lion King”

Disney has released the first trailer and poster for Jon Favreau’s “The Lion King,” the upcoming big-screen re-imagining of the 1994 animated classic.

Akin to his work on “The Jungle Book,” the film was created using a mix of CGI and live-action techniques but there seems little to no live-action elements present on screen. The all-star cast includes Donald Glover as Simba, Beyonce Knowles-Carter as Nala, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Billy Eichner as Timon and Seth Rogen as Pumbaa. Alfre Woodard, John Oliver, Keegan-Michael Key and John Kani also star.

The film journeys to the African savanna where a future king is born. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub’s arrival. Scar, Mufasa’s brother – and former heir to the throne – has plans of his own.

The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba’s exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his.

“The Lion King” opens in cinemas July 19th 2019.
