The Novato/San Rafael chapter of the Smile for a Lifetime Foundation is accepting applications for free orthodontic care for children.

The local chapter was launched in 2008 to reach children of families with financial challenges and orthodontic needs. Don Wilson, a Novato orthodontic specialist, spearheaded organizing the nonprofit’s North Bay chapter.

Applicants must be children, ages 10 to 17, whose family income does not exceed 200 percent of the U.S. Department of Heath and Human Services’ poverty guidelines. Board members for the local foundation will choose the recipients and care will be provided by Wilson.

Wilson’s office is at 7250 Redwood Blvd. in Novato. Oral surgeon Dr. Mahr Elder, and Kim Vogee of Marin Orthodontics, also donate services.

The application with instructions is available at www.wilsonortho.com/s4l.htm. The deadline for scholarship applications is June 13.
