The new gen Honda City won’t come with 1.0-litre turbo petrol in India.

India-spec Honda City won’t get the new 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine

The much awaited 5th generation Honda City was revealed for the Thailand market recently. One of the biggest highlights was the new 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine with 122 PS of power.

Sad news is that Honda won’t introduce the new turbo petrol engine with the new gen City in India. The 1.0-litre engine is said to be unique to Thailand. The engine is unsuitable for Indian traffic conditions. It would be expensive to maintain and build in India.

However, Honda will retain the high revving 1.5-litre i-VTEC naturally aspirated petrol motor. The engine will be retuned for the next gen City to produce more power and offer better fuel efficiency.

The Japanese carmaker will address the feedback of the current i-VTEC and improve the low-end torque in the new version. The 1.5-litre i-VTEC will be mated to a new 6-speed manual transmission. It will also be offered in CVT automatic.

Honda is likely to introduce the new generation City in the Indian market after April 2020. The 5th gen City has been spotted testing multiple times in many parts of the country.
