Volvo XC40 Recharge Front
Similar-looking to the XC40, but being an EV, it gets subtle changes to the design

Volvo has planned to launch the XC40 Recharge, the firm’s first all-electric model, in India in 2021. This electric SUV will join the Swedish carmaker’s line-up after the new generation S60 luxury sedan gets launched here.

This piece of information was given by Volvo Car India’s Managing Director Charles Frump, who stated that they’re looking at some time next year to launch the XC40 Recharge in India. Volvo is also planning to launch the new S60 in India next year.

He went on to provide more information about the Volvo XC40 Recharge launch by saying, “We will be able to have a very good offer on the XC40 EV for customers. Of course it’ll be more expensive (than the petrol version), but I think the gap between petrol and BEV will be much less.”

The design of the car is similar to that of the regular XC40, save for a few changes like the closed front section, “Recharge” badging and of course, because it is an EV, the charging port replaces the fuel filler.

Inside, the Volvo XC40 Recharge gets a new infotainment system powered by Google’s Android operating system, which features Volvo On Call connected-car tech, while also being capable of over-the-air updates.

Powertrain on the car comprises of a 78 kWh battery, two 204 HP electric motors (one one each axle) that have a combined output of 408 HP and 660 Nm of torque. This means the small electric SUV can do the 0-100 km/hr sprint in 4.9 seconds and flat out, it can do 180 km/hr.

The car manufacturer claims that the model has a range of over 400 kms. If you do run out of it, the car can be charged through an 11 kW AC charger or a 150 kW DC fast-charger, the latter will be apparently able to provide 80 percent of the total juice in 40 minutes.
