When you pull out your smartphone to take a photo, you expect a certain result. Sometimes that result is realized without much effort, sometimes you can get close with some minor tweaks to the software, and sometimes phone cameras fall completely short. It all depends on which company makes your smartphone, the quality of the camera hardware, and how your smartphone handles post-processing.

Some companies excel at the “point and shoot” method of snapping photos. Take a photo, wait for post-processing to do its thing, and see that the results are at least acceptable every time. Of course, not everybody will enjoy this experience. You might miss out on that one perfect shot if you’re only getting a dozen “good enough” photos.

Alternatively, some smartphone cameras require a bit more work on the user’s side. You may have to do more work to get the exposure, ISO, or other elements dialed in, but the results could produce an all-around great photo. Again, some people might only want to quickly snap a photo and move on without fussing around too much.

It’d be nice if we could get consistent photos every time out of our smartphone cameras, but that just isn’t the world we live in. So if you had to choose between snapping good photos every time or taking great photos less consistently, which would you choose? Do you value those one or two perfect photos, or is good enough good enough for you? Cast your vote in the poll above, and speak up in the comments if you have anything to add.
