Our smartphones contain a ton of personal information, from photos and videos to financial apps, work emails, and more. But there might be times when you’ll need to factory reset your device and restore this data or even start anew.

Have you actually factory reset your current smartphone though? That’s what we want to find out in our latest poll, so choose your answer below and leave a comment at the bottom of the page if you have more to say.

A factory reset might be in order if your phone is suffering from major bugs. And we’ve seen plenty of cases of buggy system updates in recent times. You might also have to factory reset your phone if you’re installing custom ROMs. Factory resets were also one way to claw back some speed if the phone got bogged down over time, although this doesn’t seem to be as big of an issue as it used to be.

Then again, there’s at least one reason you might not want to factory reset your device. And it’s the fact that backing up and restoring data can be a major pain. Android has improved its backup capabilities in recent years and much of our data resides in the cloud (e.g. contacts, email, photos), but it’s still not a 100% perfect solution.
