The 3-4-1 Washington Nationals have the pitching conundrum on the mound in the form of Patrick Corbin. While he was one of the aces of the 2019 World Series team, his 2020-2022 record has been the opposite of an ace. More like a player taking up space on a $140 million contract with two years remaining.  Corbin showed promise at the end of last season, but his first start of this spring training was bad Corbin. That has scared many Nats’ fans. In a small sample size, it was a blip on the radar. But dismissing what we saw is hard to do. Corbin will get more chances and then we will see what the 2023 version of Corbin is. The back of his baseball card looks like a player in severe age regression. But what the massive six-year contract has bought him is a fourth chance. At some point, extra chances wear thin like a bad marriage and divorce is inevitable, and you pay-up the terms in the pre-nup. But let’s not call it over yet. Corbin may in fact have nine lives. As scheduled, Corbin is supposed to pitch two innings. Behind him is some old and some new in today’s lineup against the Astros. Once again, no TV for this one. We will get some more of Charlie and Dave. Tune in after the game for their radio show with some prospect interviews from 6-7 pm.
