A noted whistleblower wrote an open letter to President Donald Trump, warning that the Veterans Administration is about to throw out more than 500,000 veteran applications due to an error the agency made itself, the Washington Examiner reported.

"Hello Mr. President: I am sending this whistleblower disclosure to your office due to the urgent need for executive intervention. VA is planning on declaring over 500,000 Veteran applications for VA health care as incomplete and abandoned at the end of March 2017," Scott Davis wrote in his letter, published by the Examiner.

With a backlog of 900,000 applications, the VA's attempt to clear up 545,000 resulted in requesting wrong information from the veterans, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reported. The VA sent letters to the wrong recipients.

If the veterans don't respond to the flawed letter, their apps have to get purged after one year — March.

"As a result VA is planning to go ahead with this illegal action of purging these records without providing Veterans notification or disclosing that these Veterans are entitled to Equitable Relief for health care cost they incurred due to administrative errors by the VA," Davis wrote to Trump.

Davis is an Atlanta-based communications official at the National Health Eligibility Center who has testified before Congress about the embattled VA.

It's also not his first open letter to Trump. Davis wrote to Trump at the end of November that the VA needed an executive, not a cheerleader.

Trump settled on David Shulkin, who had been undersecretary of the VA, who's now in the middle of this snafu. Davis writes that Shulkin was told in late December of the problem.

"Thank you for your commitment to our Nation's Veterans!" Davis concluded his letter.
