SXSW EDU 2019
Drugs, Youth, and Teachers: A Hip Hop & Math Story
Description:
Live music combines with an interactive exhibit to use Hip Hop culture and Math as analytic tools. Participants analyze inequality linked to drugs (use, addiction, treatment, sales, and arrests) and the negative impacts on youth through statistical analysis. How drug trends interact with criminal justice and mental health are explored using demographic and geographic data. These culturally grounded tools facilitate culturally flexible learning for students and educators, including self-care.
