Rumor: A Brand New Sony Entry-Level Full-Frame Mirrorless Camera is Coming

After the huge splash Sony has made with the recent A7S III announcement, there are some new rumors suggesting that the Japanese behemoth is about to unveil a brand new entry-level camera in mid-September. It’s expected that the unit will be the smallest and cheapest full-frame camera Sony has produced so far.

Furthermore, the newcomer won’t be part of the existing a7 or a9 lines. Supposedly, it will be the first model in a brand new line, possibly called the a5 or a6.

Sonyalpharumors also speculates that the new camera will use Sony’s NP-FZ100 lithium-ion battery and will have a USB Type-C port, a single SD card slot, built-in mic and headphone jacks alongside Wi-Fi/Bluetooth connectivity.

It still not clear whether the new offering will have a built-in electronic viewfinder, but it’s safe to assume that it will bring internal 4K video recording along with some decent low-light capabilities considering the full-frame sensor on board.

Also, it wouldn’t be surprising if Sony targets the sub-$1,000 price range which will make the new camera the perfect fit for a plethora of creatives who are just starting out with video and won’t be able to afford the flagship a7S III. We’ll keep you updated as new details emerge down the line.
