Is AMD planning to expand its operations to the FPGA market? According to the Wall Street Journal AMD is interested in buying Xilinx, Intel’s largest competitor in FPGA market. AMD and Xilinx are in advanced talks, according to the report.
Xiling is an American technology company specializing in FPGA (field-programmable gate arrays) manufacturing of all shapes and sizes. In 2020 the company’s revenue is at 3.16 billion and revenue at 828 million for the fourth quarter of 2019. Company market capitalization is around 26 billion USD.
AMD’s acquisition of Xilinx would be one of this year’s largest tech acquisitions. NVIDIA recently confirmed that it intends to acquire ARM from Softbank for 40 billion US dollars.

Advanced Micro Devices Inc. is in advanced talks to buy rival chip maker Xilinx Inc., according to people familiar with the matter, in a deal that could be valued at more than $30 billion and mark the latest big tie-up in the rapidly consolidating semiconductor industry.
The companies are discussing a deal that could come together as soon as next week, the people said. There is no guarantee they will get there, especially given that the talks had stalled before recently restarting, according to some of the people.
