WHY PHOBOS AND DEIMOS AND NOT MARS DIRECTLY?

  • 1 month short stay mission (total 541 days travel) instead of long 1 year stay mission (more than 1000 days travel suggested by NASA DRM5)

  • FASTER: less technology development required
  • BETTER: simplicity, no landings only orbit maneuvers
  • SAFER: No gravity (microgravity only) and escape velocity
  • Works as radiation protection for the crew and equipment during the surface exploration

  • Only 2 Heavy lift launches and 1 medium lift would be required to complete the mission,
  • Designed for 3 astronauts
  • Sample collection and delivery to Earth
