Welcome!
On this site, you’ll find a collection of my writing, films, explainer videos, courses, and much more. I hope that by gathering it in one place, you may find it of some use during these difficult times.
One thought I’d like to leave you with — if at any time you feel helpless or despairing, remind yourself that the fight for democracy, social justice, and a sustainable planet is noble. The stakes could not be higher. And we will — and must — win.

My last class
I’ve done a lot of things over my lifetime, but I’ve always come back to teaching. Teaching is my love, my calling, my joy. And even though I’ve officially retired from it, I continue to teach.
I shared my decision to retire with only a few people. Frankly, I loathed the concept of “retiring.” I still do.
One of the people I told was my longtime collaborator and Coffee Klatch podcast co-host, Heather Lofthouse. She wanted to do a video to document my last class. “Maybe we can put it up on YouTube,” she said. Instead, she partnered with filmmaker Elliot Kirschner, and they ended up making a feature-length documentary.
Their goal with The Last Class is to show how education can triumph over cynicism.
I’m excited to see what Elliot and Heather have put together. I’m thrilled and humbled that it will be in theaters this summer. I hope you will have a chance to see it.

Announcing my new book
I’m so pleased to tell you that my next book will be out August 5th, 2025.
It’s called Coming Up Short: A Memoir of My America — part autobiography, part history focused on why America elected Trump in 2016 and then again in 2024, and part a story of the failure of my generation.
You can preorder it before then, if you wish, by clicking the button below (you may prefer to order through one of the non-Amazon options).

The reason I write this daily newsletter is not just to inform (and occasionally amuse) you, but also to arm you with the truth — about how the system works and doesn’t, where power is located and where it’s lacking, and the myths and lies used by those who are blocking positive social change — so you can fight more effectively for the common good.
