Moses Bridge by RO&AD

The Moses bridge. Suggestive name. Has a relation to the history of Netherlands, where the bridge was built. And, as a statement, the design is pretty great in the sense that it’s courageous and it breaks the idea of a typical bridge over the water.

But, this bridge design raises a lot of problems which makes it’s architecture a not so good one.

Take, for example, the longer distance that people would have to walk from one side of the bridge to another, plus having to climb all those steps, as the bridge sits on a pretty steep slope. Would you really walk that bridge on a daily route? how many times would it actually take for someone to walk that bridge over and over again, until he/she starts cursing it and eventually taking another route?

the problem here is that there may not even be another ‘easier’ route. so, that person would be conformed to the not so smart design, that makes hes'her life harder than it is.

and you might think that the design actually fights laziness, maybe, but by trying to make the lazy - not so lazy, you are also making the not lazy - crazy!

and anyways, I don’t think that the lazy person would even bother to come to the bridge, in that case…

Another big problem is the cost of the bridge!

although spending money on expensive things is not something that I would mind doing, as long as the value equals the cost. but this design is actually a waste of money, because, the cost of putting that bridge in the water raises in respect to the used material, which needs to be worked, so that it doesn’t get rotten. and if you think that new technology needs to be tested, I think that it doesn’t need to be tested in actual designs.

And, well, in any case, for the price paid for this bridge, you would be able to build a better and more interesting 'typical’ one that would serve well the people who are using it.

In the end, for my taste, the idea of this design seems too straightforward to me…And I bet that in about 10 years, it will become a place where kids would go take a joint in that pretty secluded place, running away from the eyes of their parents(or whoever cares for them)…after all it IS Netherlands, where else would you get the drugs from (just a stereotypical joke, don’t laugh)?

(Can you imagine the joint in her mouth? ..not sure if Moses had access to weed back then…)

but, non the way, raises questions and makes you understand, 'why?’ until now most of the bridges are over water(in the air) and not in it, I applaud to that!

And, I would still like to see more designs of this kind, and hopefully they will impress me!

Quite funny actually. ..I wonder if this is what the author intended, though..
