Google Analytics slowing down a forum?

Discussion in 'Google Analytics' started by minstrel, Apr 6, 2006.

I finally got around to adding the script for Google Analytics to a couple of sites last night. This morning, my forum was crawling like a slug (not just for me but for other forum members as well). I checked out the possibility of database issues, etc., and found nothing. Then i remembered the Analytics code I added last night and removed it. Now the forum is back to normal.

Coincidence? Possibly - it may have been my server or any number of things. But it's odd that the sluggishness started after adding Analytics and ended after removing it.

Anyone else notice anything like this with Analytics?

Hmm, put the codes in about two days ago, at the bottom just before the </body> tag as they advised, and didn't see any slowdowns myself. Anyone else?

Nope I didnt see any slowdowns on a couple of website I monitor as well. Minstrel its seems to be a case of coincidence .. you can try it on some other website just to check out if it really slows things down there too.

Me too oberved the Query to Google-analytics site slows down sites a bit. It'll not be visible in a broadband. But in dialup or ISDN it's clear, just like clicksor ads :)

It's an extra call off-site for each page load so it stands to reason it will exact a bit of a speed penalty. I wasn't expecting anything that dramatic, though... hence, the question.

I have not experienced anything on my side.

How is your server load when the slowness occurs? Could have been a time when network issues were present on the datacenter your server is on.

Just got the invite and put it in on my vbulletin forum last week, I haven't noticed anything different. I'll have to hunt down someone with dial-up access and check that.
