Tokyo, Japan

Text description provided by the architects. This is a small house standing on a small site located in the city center. Most of the newly built houses in the area are being converted to three stories buildings. Planning a four-story building with the same volume of three-story buildings allows for a different perspective, enabling this house to have an open interior space.

As a consequence, this building has an annular opening, which appears as an abstract and continuous ribbon of light in the interior space. This ribbon erases the edge of the interior space, and makes the outline of the space obscure, giving the space a stretch from the inside to outside.

The furniture is arranged on the facade side in an unusual way, and treated as an extension of the building, providing the space with suitable scale effective usability.
