Woman Arrested After Firing Gun on UM Campus

A shooting at the School of Communications building at the University of Miami has resulted in attempted murder and other charges against a man who identifies as a woman.

According to Coral Gables Police, Yasmien Love, 25, went to the School of Communications building Friday with the intent to kill her ex and also kill herself. Police said Love went to the victim’s office with a loaded gun and waited until he arrived at his office.

Coral Gables Police said Love admitted that she and the victim struggled over the gun and it went off. Police said Love also hit the man over the head with a foreign object during the fight. Love told CGPD that she wanted to kill herself in front of the victim because of their recent break up.

Police said a witness saw the two struggling and got involved to break up the fight. The witness initially thought the victim was the aggressor but then caught Love and kept her at the scene until police arrived and took her to jail.

Love faces charges of attempted murder, aggravated battery, and discharging a firearm on school property.
