NVIDIA reintroduces GeForce RTX 3060 cryptomining hash limiter

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 will see its mining performance limited (again), but only on ‘new’ cards

NVIDIA is not giving up on fighting with cryptomining on the GeForce series.

As we repeatedly reported, NVIDIA will soon be introducing its new LHR (Lite Hash Rate) series. Those cards will carry the same product names as existing models, but underneath they will be slightly different. According to previous reports, NVIDIA RTX 30 graphics cards that will be available starting from the middle of May are all to feature cryptomining limiter. There might be some exceptions, such as RTX 3090, but the reality is that all these new/old cards will get a new GPU variant.

Those GA10X-XX2 GPUs will feature both: cryptomining limiter and ResizableBAR support. Since NVIDIA is not planning to manufacture GPUs without ReBAR and cryptolimiter from this point forward, it means that those cards will require new drivers.

Today NVIDIA announced GeForce 466.27 driver that reintroduces RTX 3060 cryptomining limiter. The same limiter that was ‘accidentally removed by NVIDIA themselves a few weeks back:

As expected, the ‘new’ RTX 3060 models (equipped with GA106-302 GPU) will carry a new PCI Device ID of 2504. This will prevent ‘302’ RTX 3060 models from being used with older drivers. This should also ‘force’ miners to buy the NVIDIA CMP HX series instead. Whether that is indeed going to happen, we will find out soon enough.
