1Opening Statement

Members, friends, and associates of the Black Faculty Staff Association would like to register the following list of concerns and complaints regarding Gov. Henry McMaster pressuring the Board of Trustees to cast a vote of support on this Friday for former West Point Superintendent Robert L. Caslen as the next president of UofSC.

We are disheartened that a presidential search process, which generated strong student, faculty and staff opposition towards Mr. Calsen and a Black finalist that received overwhelming support and vote of confidence from a diverse group of faculty, staff, and students, ended in controversy.

While we respect the Board of Trustees' position to move beyond the initial search process and are looking forward to the announcement of a new interview/search process, we write to express concern for Governor Henry McMaster's call for a vote to consider Robert L. Caslen as the next president of UofSC.
