I just survived an EXPLOSION

I am writing this within the hour of surviving a huge explosion on my walk to work. A large piece of razor sharp metal shrapnel landed exactly where I had been just a few seconds earlier.

As I was approaching the building there was suddenly a funny dusty smell in the air and the air was blurry, I paused just after the corner of the city block and looked around for anything that could be causing it. I could not see anything and so I proceeded. Just before reaching the other corner of the city block, there was this explosion and something came down from the top of the building above me on the other side of the road, smoke started to emerge, I looked back to where I had just been and there was a large piece of twisted metal debris on the ground.

The building in question is the head offices of the Masaryk University. I was completely unhurt, due to a public holiday here, only one person was seriously injured, but thankfully not fatally.

UPDATE: It would appear that the part that I saw was the roof of the van that exploded and flew over the top of the building onto the street where I had just walked. The explosion was just 20+m from me as it happened but fortunately there was building in the way.
