Get started with Insights

Insights give you an inside look at how people find your Google Business Profile. Because many customers find businesses on Google Search and Maps, Insights focuses on how customers use Search and Maps to find your profile, and what they do once they find it. You can get Insights for individual or multiple profiles.

Tips:

  • We plan to update the metrics we share to provide the most useful data from Business Profiles. Learn more about changes to Insights data.
  • Your data for the last few days may be slightly adjusted as we evaluate and refine its accuracy.

Understand how Insights work

Learn how customers find your Business Profile

The "How customers find your profile" section of Insights shows how many customers found you and how they found you. Click or tap the chart on the dashboard to see the percentage of all customers that found you through each of these methods:

  • Direct searches: A customer directly searched for your business name or address.
  • Discovery searches: A customer searched for a category, product, or service that you offer, and your profile appeared.
  • Branded searches: A customer searched for your brand or a brand related to your business. This category only shows if your profile has appeared at least once for a branded search.
  • Total searches: The total number of direct, discovery, and branded searches.

To attract people who haven't found your profile yet, run an ad on Google.

Tip: This graph shows you the number of people who searched for your business by name or by category. These searches are calculated individually, so a discovery search and then a direct search counts as 2 searches, one in each section.

Learn whether customers found you on Search or Maps

The "Where customers find you on Google" section of Insights shows how many customers found you via Google Search or Google Maps. You can find the number of views your profile received through each of these services:

  • View on Search: A customer found your business through Google Search. These display as “Search views” on bulk reports.
  • Views on Maps: A customer found your business through Google Maps. These display as “Maps views” on bulk reports.
  • Total views: The total views of both Google Search and Google Maps.

To access details about how many customers found your business for a specific product and day:

  1. Select the day.
    • Desktop: Place your cursor over the day.
    • Mobile: Tap the day.
  2. To the right of the graph, click the checkboxes to turn filters on and off.

Tip: This represents views of your business in various sections on Search and Maps. Insights displays the total number of views. If the same user viewed your business on both Search and Maps, Insights counts this as 2 views.

Learn about customer activity on your profile

The "Customer actions" section shows how customers behaved after they found your Business Profile. The graph shows how many customers completed the following types of actions when they viewed your profile:

  • Visited your website: A customer went to your website. This displays as “Website actions” on bulk reports.
  • Requested directions: A customer requested directions to your business. This displays as “Directions actions” on bulk reports.
  • Called you: A customer called your business. This displays as “Phone call actions” on bulk reports.
  • Total actions: This refers to the total amount that customers visited your website, requested directions, and called you.

To find how many customers completed an action on a specific day:

  1. Select a day.
    • Desktop: Place your cursor over the day.
    • Mobile: Tap the day.
  2. To the right of the graph, click checkboxes to turn filters on and off.

Tip: This graph displays the total number of times someone clicked an action, such as “Call.” When a single user calls a business 3 times in a day, Insights counts this as 3 calls.

Understand customer phone call data

This section displays when and how often customers called your business through your business listing.

In the Total calls graph, you can view trends of customer phone calls by Day of week or Time of day. You can use this information to learn when customers call the most.

You can adjust the time frame to sort data from the last week, month, or quarter with the dropdown menu in the top-right corner.

Tip: This metric represents the number of clicks on the call button on your Business Profile. If the user copies the number and dials it manually or ends the call before it connects, you may see discrepancies between the number of phone calls on the Insights page and number of calls your business received.

Learn what your business is known for

This section of Insights provides customers' opinions of your restaurant or cafe. For example, it might indicate that your restaurant is cozy, romantic, or offers notable cocktails.

Since customers' opinions are based on their experience, the information is subjective. It's meant to describe a place's feel and ambiance. Unless proven false, we won’t remove this information.
