Many owners of the LG G4 have had their smartphones suddenly rendered unusable due to a hardware defect that causes the phone to endlessly try to boot up, fail, and attempt to boot up again - known as the G4 "boot loop" defect.

This is especially damaging because the issue can happen suddenly and, because the phone will not boot up completely again, owners lose all the data saved on their phone when this occurs.

When the issue was first identified in internet threads and forums, many assumed only certain variants of the G4 had hardware problems (only US Sprint, Verizon, or T-Mobile-branded G4s, etc). In the past couple of months, though, it has become clear that the issue is much more pervasive, occurring in every region- or carrier-specific variant (H810, H812, H815, H818, etc..) of the G4.

Internet forums are full of people affected by this fatal boot loop defect e.g. on Reddit, Twitter, or Youtube, where almost every new comment is another owner impacted by this widespread issue.  These posts/comments are also causing G4 owners that have not yet been affected to be concerned and fearful that this might happen to them soon.

Worse yet, when owners have been struck with the boot loop, there have been many reports of LG support either

• 'Repairing' the phone, only to have the phone boot looping again soon after, e.g. [1] [2] [3]
  
  OR
  
  
• Refusing to repair this known defect, because the phone was not the correct region-specific variant covered in that country, e.g. [1] [2] [3] [4]

It is clear that simply repairing the impacted phones is not sufficient.  LG should replace the affected phones with new units that are not susceptible to the same fatal flaw.

Due to these unacceptably high failure rates, we urge LG to officially acknowledge this major hardware defect and to launch a free replacement program for ALL owners affected by this defect, regardless of the region or model number variant of G4.
