Wishaw kid Sam McKay captained Scotland at the Home Internationals

Wishaw snooker sensation Sam McKay played his heart out for his country at the Home Internationals.

As part of a four man team, Sam took on the best of the UK’s young potters in Leeds.

And the 14-year-old, who captained the side for the second year in a row, led by example winning three of his five matches.

With the snooker season about to begin again, Sam’s dad Donald is on the lookout for a sponsor to help him kick on the next level. He said: “The new season kicks off on September 1, and Sam will start the defence of his under-16 title soon after that.

“Sam needs to be playing guys at a higher level to gain the experience needed to compete at the upper under-21 and men's levels.

“Just now he’s competing in Scotland and has won everything going at this level.

“He’s hoping to qualify for the under-21 team next year to start moving up the ladder to play the top amateurs.

“We are looking at tournaments in Europe but again that would come down to if we could finance them.”
