There's no question that Sleeper Simulant is a—if not the— dominant weapon in Destiny 2: Forsaken's new Gambit mode. With talks already ongoing at developer Bungie about how to make Sleeper a little less powerful in the mode, Bungie announced today that an upcoming update will include a Gambit-specific nerf.

This nerf won't touch the weapon itself but its ammo economy. Starting with Destiny 2 Update 2.0.5 on October 30th (barring any issues between now and then), when players pick up a purple Power ammo brick, Sleeper Simulant will get two rounds. That's down from the current four rounds gained with each Power ammo pickup.

Although this one has a date, this isn't the only planned nerf for Sleeper Simulant. As mentioned by Bungie's Gameplay Design Lead Josh Hamrick on Twitter, a different nerf will likely affect the aim assist on Sleeper Simulant with the intention of making it harder to lock onto enemy Guardians so easily with the weapon.

In Year 2 of Destiny 2, Bungie has adopted a direction where it does not want to over-nerf anything, so with the ammo change and the upcoming aim change, it will be interesting to see how Bungie handles the process of balancing Sleeper Simulant. This is the first major balancing issue that the developer has faced since it took this direction of putting more powerful tools into the hands of players.

Sleeper Simulant was quickly identified as one of the best weapons to have equipped in Gambit even before Forsaken launched. In fact, news of the weapon's ability to one-shot Guardians in their Supers, including invaders with an overshield, started to spread during the 24-hour Gambit trial day.

Once again, the ammo nerf will arrive on October 30 while the nerf to the weapon itself will come at a later, unspecified date.

Destiny 2: Forsaken is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
