674You know that “Single Black Mother Made Good,” Donna Brazile, who, when she was appointed to replace Little Debbie, was called “A Solid Progressive Choice,” by Bernie Sanders? Yeah, she thinks that the Clinton Foundation’s activities are perfectly normal.

Speaking of Bernie “Turncoat” Sanders, His “Our Revolution” certainly isn’t our “Our Revolution.”  It’s just another shepherding operation of the Democratic party. “But what revolutionary strategy and organization is NOT, is not so debatable. It isn’t a return to the corporate-controlled Democratic Party.

In today’s “A Feature Not A Bug” news, by next year, Obama’s signature corporate welfare program will result in 1/3rd of the country having only 1 insurance provider.

The fear of certain breeds of dogs mirrors the fear of certain people. How racism has instilled an irrational fear of the American Pit Bull.

And in today’s “Nature Not Nurture” news, it appears our ability to read, as well as how well we can read, is hard-wired into our brains from birth. This has serious implications for all kinds of political philosophies.

Yet Another Cop Caught Stealing Drugs From the Prescription Drop Box in Ventura, California

Senior Deputy Matthew Volpe of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office is just the latest in a string of cops caught “sampling the goods” from a police department prescription drop box. The drop boxes are supposed to represent a way for citizens to turn over old or unneeded prescription drugs for proper disposal that eliminates contamination of water supplies or other environmental concerns. It also eliminates the threat
of heavily armed, violent people catching them with them after the prescription has expired and assaulting and/or kidnapping them because they no longer have permission from the State to put that particular
    substance in their body.

    • The_Fixer

Yeah, that “Thin Blue Line” is what separates the cops from the criminals, and it is very, very thin indeed.

  • SmotPoker

12th, and while you goobers were eating worms, I was having a nice breakfast at a local cafe….

    • The_Fixer

I’ve never been fond of worms, mostly because one has to be an early bird to get them. I am not an early bird.

  • SmotPoker

Oh, and just as an update, yours truly is still without a working automobile.

I left on my journey on the 9th of July.

Drink that in for a minute….

    • The_Fixer

      Good Morning, Smot.

I am amazed at your ability to find the most incompetent auto repair people, no matter what state they happen to be in.

      • SmotPoker

        It’s a gift really…

        • The_Fixer

Yeah, a gift you’d rather be able to return, I’m sure. I’m sure that I could troubleshoot that for you, but I don’t have the time available to travel across a Great Lake to do so 🙁

          • SmotPoker

The EMC keeps blowing a capacitor. My mechanic is trying to determine why this keeps happening. Have yet another one order, but it won’t do a bit of fucking good if it gets fried yet again.

          • The_Fixer

Yeah, I think he’s engaged in a game of insanity – repeatedly doing the same thing expecting different results. Capacitors do not blow without something radically out of whack, something that for an electronics tech, would be relatively easy to find.

In fact, I get if you go on YouTube, you’d find a solution. I think I’ll try that.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            hey fixer 🙂

          • The_Fixer

A pleasant morning to you, My Queen. How are you today?

          • SpiffyTheValiant

I be okay. Other than the Schultz thing. An outrage, I tell you.

          • The_Fixer

Schultz thing? I must have missed something this morning.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

She’s up by ten in Florida. After everything she did, she is still leading and by double digits -_-

          • The_Fixer

I scrolled up and read your other post on that. Some people love being fungus; sitting in a dark room and covered by bullshit. No other explanation.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

I guess so. I suppose it’s a relief to know that compared to Hillary her lead is miniscule so there are some people that are only half brain dead.

          • The_Fixer

Well, this is Florida we’re talking about. That’s the land of whacky. Very little that goes on there really surprises me.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            yup

          • SmotPoker

Oh no, this guy is the one that has discovered the problem. He was an electrician before he was a mechanic, and took early retirement from Fords. He knows his shit. He’s the one that found that they were blowing caps. I’m an EE myself, but I ain’t fucking with it, my poor back couldn’t handle being bent over the hood for 5 minutes without causing me lots of pain. I think I stated it incorrectly too, it’s the ECM not the EMC. Electronic Control Module.

          • The_Fixer

That’s whacky. I’d have to be familiar with that circuit in order to say what’s going on. Will try to look at the wiring diagram on line. An ECM blowing up a capacitor?

Capacitors blow from heat (which usually takes an extended period of time), through polarity reversal (in the case of polarized electrolytic caps), over voltage, or overcurrent (in the case that they have to pass AC).

Sounds like an interesting problem, albeit a very frustrating one.

          • SmotPoker

No, a capacitor inside the ECM keeps getting fried. Yeah, very true that caps can hold a charge, but only so much before it goes pop. Something is sending too much current to it, and it’s zapping it out. I’m thinking I have a faulty ground somewhere along the line. I dunno.

We’re looking it at is a divide and conquer deal now. We see where the problem keeps getting bottlenecked in that ECM, so now it’s a matter of tracking back to see what the fuck is causing it. Once that cap blows power to the fuel pump is shut down so it’s gotta be something before the fuel pump in the circuit.

95 Ford Taurus if you care to fuck around. We’ve had the schematics out at the shop, and went over them ourselves already. One thing we are doing is putting a bypass for the fuel pump so that if it does happen again I can flip a switch, and have power to it in order to get it back to the shop rather than another tow.

          • The_Fixer

Does this happen rapidly, as in right away, or does it take some time? I wonder of this ECM has a switched-mode power regulation circuit and it has a leaky or shorted diode. Usually, that will shut down such a supply, but Ford does some very weird things in their cars.

          • SmotPoker

It’s been the very definition of intermittent. The fix from Tifton, GA lasted for 466 miles, and conked out the 2nd fuel stop. The fix in Gainesville got me 70 miles. The fix in Atlanta got me 700 miles. The fix in Valdosta got me 50 miles. The fix at home got me 4 miles.

            Pick one.

          • The_Fixer

All of these people changed this capacitor inside of the ECM?

And if there is one thing I have learned from 49 years of fixing electronics, the first thing one should look at when dealing with an intermittent is solder connections. I have fixed an untold huge amount of product by resoldering many connections on the PC board. Sometimes they are hard to spot, so I inspect the board under a magnifying lamp. Tedious, but it’s worth it to spend the time doing so, even if you wind up finding there’s no problem there.

          • SmotPoker

Nah, the only one that bothered to take the damn thing apart was my hometown mechanic whom is very good at his job. He’s the one that retired from Ford, and was an electrician before that as I understand it.

The others just replaced: Fuel pump, Fuel tank, cleaned the lines, cleaned the injectors, a new plug here, a new ECM, a new voltage regulator, a new rotor, and no doubt a couple of things I’ve forgotten already without consulting the bills.

I’m leaning towards checking the voltage regulator to make sure it’s not blowing out the ECM. I dunno at this point. Up is down, wrong is right, and left is right.

          • The_Fixer

So, obviously something external is causing the ECM to go bad, or at least telling it to shut off the fuel pump (as so many have noted). Is this thing rusty? If so, look at grounds, and I mean every one of them. Anything that bolts to the chassis, fenders, runs between the engine block and the body or chassis. You may have a strange over voltage condition due to a bad ground.

I know that you don’t hear well, but did you notice the radio getting louder before the thing failed, or perhaps brighter lights or something like that?

You may also have a bad alternator, it looks like it has an internal voltage regulator. It would be helpful to know just where in the ECM circuit this capacitor is. I have tried searching for a schematic, if it’s out there, google is useless and can’t find it.

          • SmotPoker

I’m with you on the ground. It’s what I’ve been saying since Atlanta when those fellas had some issues getting a consistent ground on it. No idea how they finally solved it either. Alternator was changed not too long before the trip, and should be A-OK. Considering it’s a very intermittent problem I’d just about bet money that it’s a grounding issue. I’ve said as much at the shop, and we’ll just have to see.

I think we’ll find some ground on the undercarriage of the car will have been knocked loose or some shit, probably by the same thing that took out my exhaust right at the catalytic converter that I had to have welded back together in Dalton, GA.

          • The_Fixer

Yeah, it is awfully suspicious. A redneck with a torch is a dangerous thing 🙂 Don’t completely rule out the alternator, though. That’s why there are warranties – to cover manufacturing defects.

I think you’ll have to put the thing on a lift and inspect every inch of wiring. This guy may have burned through a wiring harness with that torch. That can cause all kinds of grief.

But yeah, look at those grounds. I could tell you stories about grounding, but they’re really not all that interesting to most people 🙂

          • The_Fixer

One little thing to add – the ECM may be doing exactly what it is supposed to do when it senses (or thinks it senses due to a bad ground) an overvoltage condition. It would shut down the engine to keep it from continuing. Easiest way to do that without flooding the engine is to shut off the fuel pump.

I think it would be wise to ride around with a bypass switch temporarily installed and a voltmeter right at the ECM (using it’s power source and ground). That may give you more of a clue.

          • 17

Duct tape. Or WD-40. One of ’em will fix it 😉

US Government Says It’s No Longer Against al-Qaeda

The American public thinks that jihadists are our enemy, but the American aristocracy has no problem with
jihadists – their friends, the Saudi aristocracy, are competing in the oil-and-gas market against the Russians, not against the jihadists.

    http://www.strategic-culture.org/news/2016/08/29/us-government-says-no-longer-against-al-qaeda.html

    • notisaidthepig

      Un-freaking-believable.

      • 17

Actually, it’s not. We’ve known all along that it’s all bullshit, but we were called nuts and told to double up on the tin foil.

    • The_Fixer

In the immortal words of Richard M. Nixon, “When the President does it, it’s not illegal.”

Drink that in for a second; Mr. Nobel Peace Prize recipient has the same philosophy as the poster boy of bad Republicanism. I am not surprised.

    • SmotPoker

Oh wow, so that means we can start sending them money again right?

      • 17

        You mean more money, right?

  • The_Fixer

Good morning, everyone. So, after I check my mail and log out, I am returned to the Yahoo! Home Page. The first screenshot is what was on the Yahoo! Page. The second is what appeared on the Huffington Post page. Interesting, no?

    • notisaidthepig

      Wow. What a difference.

      • AOL, then Yahoo. You expected a difference?

    • It’s always weird to me, when I see screenshots that show other people still tolerate being advertised at, as in the first screenshot, from AOL.

      • The_Fixer

Well, first screenshot is from Yahoo! (I know, same difference).

I don’t like advertising and have learned to ignore a great deal of it. It does pay for the content, that’s why I don’t block it, except on rare occasions.

My last block was ora tv. It was a video thing with Jesse Ventura on it, and it was driving me nuts, Straight to 127.0.0.1 with that one.

There are some limits to my tolerance of advertising, and if it’s really bothersome I complain or just block it.

        • Blocking it doesn’t stop the site from getting paid for the “impression” it just keeps it from being seen on the page content.

On my display, the AOL site is the first most image, going top to bottom.

          • The_Fixer

I’m sure you know more about how that is all done. All I know is that I didn’t have to see Jesse any more.

I also did complain to Google about a particularly gross picture of nasty toenails in one ad. I tagged it as “inappropriate” and did not see it again until I cleared all my browser cookies. I repeated that process and eventually, it appears to have gone away for good – I don’t even see it on other computers these days. Of course, google was kind enough to supply me with a different ad 😉

One I might add, I was able to ignore. Which should tell them something – you shoot enough crap at people, and they learn to ignore it.

          • They don’t care about such complaints. They are promptly round-filed. That I have direct experience with. It would have to get media exposure for them to modify course one millimeter. Even then the media functionary would likely be killing, or at the very least retarding his career growth.

      • Shohanna

I block all of them, Or I try to atleast. There appears to be an issue b/c of how that fucking malware got on my machine. Yes I KNOW I have to reload windows. It went in the fucking system files. But it took me so long to setup this damned system I don’t want to do it right this minute.

I have it blocked every which way to Sunday. And notifications set up to let me know if personal info gets snagged. So far so good.

But holy shit, NoScript and FireFox are fucking arguing over the damned Flash/ other flash with videos. And some websites don’t work, or won’t let me “BLOCK” anything. It’s down right annoying.

It’s like half my shit don’t work any more. I can’t stand Chrome, I have to use it to cast to my TV, (Has web but no wifi itself). Chrome is stupid and the way it works, I don’t like it.

I love firefox but something is going on that it isn’t properly working. 🙁

  • The_Fixer

I know that this is an easy one, and the jokes just write themselves, but it appears that some people just can’t help themselves, and they are named Weiner:

    http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/onpolitics/2016/08/29/anthony-weiner-caught-another-sext-scandal/89526640/

This man is a idiot, and is especially talented at being one.

    • notisaidthepig

It’s an illness. Has to be. It says he was posting with his kid in the background. Gross! And sick.

      • The_Fixer

Yeah, pretty much has to be a pathological condition.

      • Shohanna

They should have had John Oliver take over the Daily Show. /nod

    • Shohanna

ROFLMAO!! The poor guy can’t win for losing.

  • The_Fixer

I am not sure what to make of this one. It presents a lot of possibilities:

    https://www.yahoo.com/news/fbi-says-foreign-hackers-penetrated-000000175.html

Now is this preparing us for a planned hacking on behalf of a certain person who is running for President? Is it genuine? I noticed that they immediately mention the Russians, who have once again become America’s boogeyman.

It should be interesting to see how this develops and the narrative that is advanced. That will tell us a lot.

    • notisaidthepig

Good morning, Fixer. Assume the worst. 🙁

      • The_Fixer

‘Mornin’, Mr. Pig. I’m inclined to do exactly that. Want to hear more about it, though.

  • 17

What is a Conspiracy Theory? What is the Truth?

A “conspiracy theory” no longer means an event explained by a conspiracy. Instead, it now means any explanation, or even a fact, that is out of step with the government’s explanation and that of its media pimps….

In other words, as truth becomes uncomfortable for government and its Ministry of Propaganda, truth is
redefined as conspiracy theory, by which is meant an absurd and laughable explanation that we should ignore.

    http://www.globalresearch.ca/what-is-a-conspiracy-theory-what-is-the-truth/5429344

    • notisaidthepig

Yep. We can thank the Clintons for that shift in denotation.

      • RTIII

Connotation – the pig needs more coffee! :))

  • notisaidthepig

Good morning, everyone. Just have a few minutes before I head out the door to tangle with the first day of classes. Wish me luck!

    • The_Fixer

I hope you have a great day! Have fun pouring knowledge into young brains 🙂

      • Edwin

Ha! That’s the smallest part of a teacher’s job. 70% of it is classroom management and preventing the little fuckers from taking over. Only 20% is teaching. (10% is giving angry teacher looks.)

        • The_Fixer

I suspected that was the truth. I was trying to sound encouraging 🙂

    • Edwin

Oh, joy! Good luck. (Hope you don’t end up with that one monster child.)

      • notisaidthepig

        More than one!

        • Edwin

You did end up with more? (not surprising)

    • EdgarHF

      Good luck

US police pepper spray 84-year-old black woman: Video

Disturbing video has been released showing a police officer pepper spraying an 84-year-old black woman inside her home in the US state of Oklahoma.

    http://www.presstv.ir/Detail/2016/08/29/482228/US-police-pepper-spray-woman

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKhmjHK-vmA

    • The_Fixer

Shit, the guy was coming toward them when they tased him. He was following orders.

Not content with that, they have to beat up on his mother, who was obviously not in any position to put up a fight.

These cops are assholes. Something has to be done about the huge number of criminals who are allowed to be on police forces throughout the country.

      • 17

I have some thoughts on how to make them actually “fear for their lives” as they come through the door, but it always leads to arguments, so I’ll just shut up now.

        • The Wrath of Conventional Wisdom is a hard storm to endure.

    • Left of Eden

WTF? Why pepper spray and handcuff an 84 y.o. woman? She posed zero threat to anyone. Shit, maybe someone that age has dementia and can’t follow instructions. Frigging crazy! The tasering was completely unnecessary as well since the young man was doing exactly as he commanded at the time. Sorry, but anyone who pepper sprays an 82 y.o. deserves a good pummeling, cop or no.

      • Rule #234 of “Living in a Police State”

Don’t ever be, in the least, “in the way” of a cop.

      • 17

True, but it’s the size and type of thumping tool people seem to go apeshit over. I’m in the “bigger is better” category.

  • SpiffyTheValiant

-_- Schultz up by 10 points in Florida.

Florida, you deserve what you get if you reelect a woman who had to “resign” in disgrace. Then again apparently that portion of the state went to Hillary by 68% points. So you know what, fuck it. Give it back to the alligators. They are clearly smarter. Relocate the people that still have some functional brain cells.

    • SmotPoker

Ya gotta remember this is the same state that re-elected a convicted swindler in Rick Scott. Why he isn’t in prison for his fraud that cost taxpayers millions of dollars is something that makes no sense at all. Instead, those dumbfucks elected him governor again….

      • SpiffyTheValiant

        yeah.

        • SmotPoker

It’s one thing to make a mistake giving your vote to an unknown quantity that then fucks you over, it’s another animal altogether to give your vote to a known quantity that is guaranteed to fuck you over as it’s been doing since the last time you gave it your vote….

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            indeed

      • Florida is America’s diseased cock. I wish it would rot off, and take Texas with it. The Republic would be so much better off.

        /Yep, that’s how I really feel.

        • Edwin

Paging Bugs. Where are you Bugs?

    • Shohanna

Guys, I DOUBT the people elected her. Or are electing her. How much election fraud have we seen?! Fucking hell they gave it to BUSH.

There just isn’t enough people voting to over come their fraud. People KNOW it’s rigged and they want NOTHING to do with it.

  • RTIII

KPFA board candidate Tanaka says in a campaign speech, in part:

Huma is separating from Anthony. She is a Clinton Aide. Great so now Clinton will play the sympathy card. aye aye.

Eh I don’t view Anthony as that bad. He just likes to sex and send naughty pictures. It’s not really fair that people brought the hammer down on him, when Bill Clinton actually DID something and other politicians actually have REAL sex scandals and not just “reading/looking at pictures” scandals. If that makes sense?

I can’t blame her for leaving him of course. though I am wondering why she stuck around as long as she did.

Leaked FBI Alert Admits Hackers Penetrated US Election Systems

The fact that the FBI is now admitting to the vulnerability of the election should raise serious concern for Americans. Before 2016, talk of vote rigging, or hacking elections, remained on the fringe — in spite of whistleblowers showing the easily provable insecure nature of electronic voting machines.

Hillary Clinton Vows to Shut Down ‘Conspiracy Theory’ Websites

Freedom of speech and freedom of the press will be resigned to history under a Hillary Clinton presidency, as the Democratic nominee threatens to shut down alternative news websites and anything the establishment view as a “conspiracy theory” if she is elected President of the United States.

Morning everyone! 😛 Just arrived here to campus…missed my class today because I couldn’t get the taxi on the phone so that I could make the bus to Bakersfield…ended up taking the county bus here to Bakersfield instead and am just going to hang out here a while and maybe run some campus errands, then go home (if I was already up at 6 am it made more sense just to come to campus anyway rather than go back to bed).

Anyway, I see that #AmnestyDon is trending on Twitter right now. I kind of dread clicking it.

    • cathyx

      Have you ever tried Uber?

      • Annaleigh

No, and to be honest, I’m not sure there would be an Uber driver here in town. I’m/we’re loyal to a certain family owned cab company almost to a fault…they are great people, only problem is they get really busy on Sunday nights and the son can be slow to pick up the phone when I start calling about 6 am on a Monday morning because he’s probably exhausted. Today it was 6:25 and he still hadn’t picked up the phone (my bus leaves at 6:45) so I gave up.

        • cathyx

Then just at those times when it’s difficult to get service, you shouldn’t feel bad about using Uber or another cab company. Sorry, loyalty can only go so far when they aren’t holding up their end of the bargain.

          • Annaleigh

True. I may have to find the number for the grey taxis. There’s an old man who sometimes has the grey taxis bring him to the bus station so he can take the same 6:45 bus so I know the driver for that company is up and going at that hour.

After what I witnessed there is NOTHING irrational about my mistrust of the American pit-bull.

    • First, are you sure you saw a pit bull? I mean, even professionals at shelters misidentify other breeds as Pitties, all the time. Perhaps what you may have seen, was an outlier given the number of breeds that are far more aggressive than Pit Bulls?

After all, most of what the media is selling about Pitties is simply untrue, and there is a long history of evidence to the contrary and states are even feeling compelled, by the facts, to stop paranoid and irrational anti-pittie laws.

Given all that, couldn’t it be, just the tiniest bit, irrational? After all, the Pit Bull has always been, America’s Dog and Our Nanny Dog.

      • Dosido3

I love dogs but am afraid of a number of breeds. Dobies, pitbulls, mastiffs, bull terriers…you can try to talk me out of it but we can’t argue with emotion!

        • Well, if it’s a “natural” phobia and not some media-induced misinformation/paranoia, then exposure to those breeds is, actually, the way to get over it! I think, except maybe for the Dobies, those breeds are actually among the least likely to show inappropriate aggression. The ones you really want to fear are breeds like Collies, Dachshunds/Chihuahuas and Beagles.

          See Here
(From above. A higher percentage means a safer breed)

          • Shohanna

Chihuahuas are not aggressive! O.o My parents had many for years and they never once showed any aggression to anyone. They were tiny, tiny, yappy mutts who loved everyone who wanted to pet them.

          • I’ve seen 6 dog attacks in my life, one German Shepherd, one Collie and four Chihuahuas (and a Chihuahua is the only breed of dog that attacked me personally).

But it’s not just my anecdotal evidence. Chihuahuas score pretty badly on the “inappropriate aggressiveness” list, compare their “inappropriately aggressive” score of 30.2% to the American Pit Bull’s score of only 14%.

          • Shohanna

Well, my Momma always told me that it’s the people not the dog. If people are mean and nasty, so will the animal be. Including cats, dogs, horses, etc etc.

          • Dosido3

Interesting! I think it’s personal experience in my case. We had collies growing up. Sweet things. I lived next door to two dobies. Mother and daughter. When daughter had her own pup, she attacked it. :(. My lab was attacked by a hugely territorial pit bull at a dog park. She was also humped by a pit bull roaming around the hood until my hubs kicked him off. O.o

      • panem et circenses

On a side note, racists and white supremacists have a tendency to love pit bulls. I’m not sure whether that pokes holes in the “racist” theory or proves it. I personally have no opinion, but anecdotally I do know several racists who own them.

      • Shohanna

The only dog I am irrationally afraid of, is the Doberman. I mostly got over it when my parent’s new puppy bonded to me. She was a minpin, they reclassified her as a Manchester terrier toy. but to me she will always be a tiny Doberman. Dead up looked like the dog that attacked me at 6.

We were at a 4th of July celebration at a huge ass state park in UT. My Uncle was taking me to the restroom and I was looking at the grass. When I was suddenly attacked by the dog. He thought I was his toy. He grabbed me by my arm and started shaking his head back and forth and it took the Men a bit to get him off of me.

I did nothing to provoke the attack. It was also the reason I don’t wear dresses anymore either. The dog actually thought I was his Toy and would not let go. My arm was torn to shreds and they rushed me to the hospital. I had to have rabies shots and I was in there for 2 weeks. I will never forget it. Or the trauma. The dog was put down for his transgressions even though it was not intended. The owner was fined for having a vicious dog in public. Obviously, teaching him to attack humans. 🙁

But Chakita, my banana mutt, (her nickname) helped me to over come my fear. I still won’t touch them with a 10ft pole, but I won’t pass out, or run away from them now. It still gives me the heebie jeebies to be anywhere near them though. 🙁

        • panem et circenses

The only dog that ever actually bit me was a black lab, and I’m pretty sure he was stoned. Luckily it was just a nip that drew a little blood, particularly since it was on my face.

“Clinton confidante: Sanders did ‘significant damage’

Longtime Hillary Clinton confidante Neera Tanden in a new podcast commends Bernie Sanders for the issues he raised during his campaign but notes his attacks on the Democratic presidential nominee were harmful.

“I actually have to say, I think he brought a lot of really important issues to the floor, but Senator Sanders was prosecuting a much tougher character attack” than Barack Obama did in 2008, Tanden said during Politico’s “Off Message” podcast.

“Illinois Sues Controversial Drug Maker Over Deceptive Marketing Practices”

Illinois’ attorney general has filed suit against Insys Therapeutics, accusing the controversial pharmaceutical company of using deceptive marketing practices — including paying an indicted doctor thousands of dollars for “sham” speaking events — to sell its signature pain medication.

It’s not unusual for drug makers to pay doctors who have histories of misconduct for consulting or speaking about their products. A recent ProPublica analysis found that more than 2,300 doctors with records of discipline in five states had received payments from drug and medical device companies since 2013.

  • Referencing the fact that Gene suffered from Alzheimer’s, his nephew said:

“The decision to wait until this time to disclose his condition wasn’t vanity, but more so that the countless young children that would smile or call out to him “there’s Willy Wonka,” would not have to be then exposed to an adult referencing illness or trouble and causing delight to travel to worry, disappointment or confusion. He simply couldn’t bear the idea of one less smile in the world.”

I like Alicia Keys. The twitter response to her poem was “I’m outta here” from some POC. Not feeling it.
I’m confused about her no-makeup vow. She’s pretty and famous enough to pull it off and it’s her choice. But it makes me wonder about other non-natural markers of beauty like jewelry and clothing, etc. Thought provoking to say the least.

      • Shohanna

Hey you know what? When I was diagnosed with my latex allergy about 6 yrs ago, I found out a majority of makeup contains latex that isn’t on the “label”. I called it off, I can’t wear it. I could sit there and read labels all day long and it doesn’t help. In the least. Mascara, eye liners, eye shadow, lips stick, blush the list goes on and for some unGODly reason they aren’t obligated to put that fucking ingredient on the package.

I wonder why… This also includes NAIL POLISH. After 3 to 4 reactions to these products. I decided it isn’t fucking WORTH IT. I haven’t worn make up since.

I found some make up (clinique) that is pure, but it looks like kids make up when applied and I look like a fucking clown. I found some non-latex nail polish, same damned thing. It looks fake and flakes off with in hours. So your damned if you do and damned if you don’t. And Boy do people treat you different when you aren’t “made” up. It’s like they think you are lazy. Wonder where that stereotype came from.

Ever gone to an interview “naked”? Yeah, don’t expect to be even taken seriously without having make up and even clear nail polish. **smdh** People are so fucking superficial. Even my ligit excuse isn’t enough to get past and interview.

        • MsPythia

Have you tried 100% Pure makeup? Supposed to be something even people with all kinds of allergies can wear because they use natural fruit dyes and rice powder/starch.

          https://www.100percentpure.com/

          • Shohanna

Latex comes from Fruit. Pineapple, Avocados, Coconut, Mango, Papaya, Other tropical fruit are a base ingredient. I can not touch them with a 10ft pole. Most of the time, they do not list these fruit ingredients and I find out the hard way. I am already playing Russian Roulette with my heart medicine. I don’t need or want to do with make up too. It’s not worth it to me.

          • MsPythia

Ah — I didn’t realize that! I recommended it because I have a friend who has a lot of allergies to makeup and cosmetics and this is what she uses. I don’t blame you for staying away from wearing makeup.

        • Edwin

I find just the opposite. If I go to interviews with my face made-up the interview is usually very very short and I never get the job.

Clothes and jewelry aren’t seen as gender exclusive in the same way makeup is, though some types certainly are. Makeup is a good place to start, though I doubt the majority of women will likely want to be “liberated” from the gender norm of wearing makeup. It has obvious advantages.

        • Shohanna

Those advantages turn to discrimination when you can’t abide by the social norm. 🙁

“Contractor who came in from the cold”

The leak of documents about the Scorpene submarine provides an interesting insight into a not-so-well known aspect of the murky world of defence deals — of numerous free-floating consultants, many of them retired military personnel, who play a crucial role in deciding the fate of billion-dollar deals. They operate in addition to the unscrupulous middlemen who are integral to most deals.

Many senior officials who have dealt with foreign suppliers say that despite the avowed anti-corruption policies adopted by global military giants, middlemen and consultants are essential to their strategy to win a major deal.

  • smkngman3

    OUCH!

“HILLARY CLINTON CONNECTED TO ‘GRAND GODFATHER’ OF EXTREME NATIONALISM, PUTIN”

On Thursday, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton gave a speech in Reno, Nevada, criticizing the “alt-right’s” support for Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

The speech was problematic on a number of levels, including the celebration of President George W. Bush as a hero for fighting Islamophobia. But the most bizarre claim came when former Secretary Clinton dubbed Russian President Vladimir Putin the “grand godfather of a global brand of extreme nationalism,” adding that Putin was behind the reactionary politics of the Trump candidacy.

Beyond the problems with grand godfather as a classification, is the notion that American racism and reactionary politics is somehow the result of Russian influence. It is hard to put into words how abysmally stupid Clinton’s claim is. I guess anyone trying to refute it should start with an elementary school history book, which will lay out rather clearly that US history includes genocide and racially-based chattel slavery, as well as discriminatory social and economic policies practiced up to the present day.

She wants a war with Russia — after her and Bill took a shit ton of money from Russia (Bill’s speeches), and she worked her uranium deal, and continued to hoover up piles of cash for the Foundation, but obviously at this point a war with Russia probably just seems the most lucrative thing to do. Money is all this corrupt, evil bitch has ever cared about.

Not only is “Global Nationalism” an absurd oxymoron, but she and Bill love Putin — and they also love Trump.

“Women let loose on annual GoTopless Day in Times Square sponsored by UFO cult”

“I love being topless and it really bothers me that we can’t go topless without it being a big deal,” said 19-year-old Nickii Raynor. “Men go topless all the time and it’s so normalized.”

The group swelled to a few hundred as men and women joined the march through Times Square. The march was organ?ized by members of the Raelian Movement, known for its belief that aliens founded the world’s major religions.

Dipshits. The firearms issue is too important to keep the sheep in line, no one’s going to take real action, one way or another. One side is kept in line from fear the evil mass murderer is coming to get their children, the other from paranoia over their property and liberty.

And both sides line up for the 5 minutes of hate, whenever they’re told. Meanwhile, the Uniparty has nothing to fear from the potential of both groups ganging up against them, as both groups are too busy shouting slogans at each other.

This says so much about our “War” on terrorism.

“Israeli Think Tank: Don’t Destroy ISIS; It’s a “Useful Tool” Against Iran, Hezbollah, Syria”

Why? The so-called Islamic State “can be a useful tool in undermining” Iran, Hezbollah, Syria and Russia, argues the think tank’s director.

“The continuing existence of IS serves a strategic purpose,” wrote Efraim Inbar in “The Destruction of Islamic State Is a Strategic Mistake,” a paper published on Aug. 2.

By cooperating with Russia to fight the genocidal extremist group, the United States is committing a “strategic folly” that will “enhance the power of the Moscow-Tehran-Damascus axis,” Inbar argued, implying that Russia, Iran and Syria are forming a strategic alliance to dominate the Middle East.

“WASHINGTON POST EDITORS CARICATURE JILL STEIN AS ‘FAIRY TALE’ PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE”

The Washington Post editorial board held a meeting with Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein on August 25. For a Republican or Democratic presidential nominee, this is standard. For a third-party candidate like Stein, the fact that the Post met with her is quite an accomplishment. However, the editorial board crassly attacked her immediately after the meeting.

“VIDEO: DILMA ROUSSEFF’S IMPEACHMENT TRIAL NEARS AN END, ENDANGERING BRAZILIAN DEMOCRACY”

The most remarkable aspect of all of this — and what fundamentally distinguishes this process from impeachment in, say, the U.S. — is that Dilma’s removal results in the empowerment of a completely different party that was not elected to the presidency. In fact — as my Intercept Brasil colleagues João Filho and Breno Costa documented this week — Dilma’s removal is empowering exactly the right-wing party, PSDB, that has lost four straight national elections, including one to Dilma just 21 months ago. In some cases, the very same people from that party who ran for president and lost are now in control of the nation’s key ministries.

As a result, the unelected government now about to take power permanently is preparing a series of policies — from suspending Brazil’s remarkably successful anti-illiteracy program, privatizing national assets, and “changing” various social programs to abandoning its regional alliances in favor of returned subservience to the U.S. — that was never ratified by the Brazilian population and could never be. Whether you want to call this a “coup” or not, it is the antithesis of democracy, a direct assault on it.

We live in a neo-feudalist society. Capitalism is inherently violent and oppressive, and the illusion of democracy through representation is just a pacification mechanism, to give you the false impression that you have some control over your own governing. Bankers and CEOs have replaced kings, and governments have become their vassals. The rest of us are resources to be herded, farmed and managed.

      • MsPythia

He may not have had these leaks then…

Maybe, but it is unclear at the moment, I agree.

        • SpiffyTheValiant

I think he probably did. He’s been going on about this for awhile. Maybe you are right though.

          • MsPythia

These new leaks appear to have come from Guccifer2.0 — and it’s not clear when exactly Wikileaks got all of them — or if they have them all yet. The DNC leaks probably came from Seth Rich who was murdered in D.C.

      • towerofbabel

For what it’s worth, he says material came in to Wikileaks because of the past disclosure of DNC emails.

          • MsPythia

Bush and Obama didn’t have leaks like this when they were running for president though, that’s all I’m saying.

          • panem et circenses

Revealed, no, but their corruption was well known by those who mattered, who saw it as a positive.

          • MsPythia

Bush I would agree, but with Obama, he really didn’t have too much political experience to show how much corruption he was capable of before he became president. In fact, that’s why people were so enthusiastic about him compared to Clinton. He seemed a lot cleaner than her.

        • towerofbabel

          Pretty much.

          • MsPythia

Could be. Or maybe they think that this election was always going to be rigged for a Clinton win, so they want to cripple her with her own dirt before her invalid presidency even begins.

          • cathyx

Yeah, possibly. Leaking it right before the election will have a bigger impact on the election than doing it now when they would have time to make excuses and it wouldn’t be fresh on anyones mind on election day.

          • MsPythia

Absolutely. There is already so much that’s come out, that if she wasn’t (conveniently) running against a clown (and dear old friend) like Trump, she’d be dead in the water in the polls.

President Jimmy Carter devoted substantial effort to transportation deregulation, and worked with Congressional and civil society leaders to pass the Airline Deregulation Act (October 24, 1978), Staggers Rail Act (signed October 14, 1980), and the Motor Carrier Act of 1980 (signed July 1, 1980).

The latest lie to pass Obama’s Corporate Coup!

Did President Obama Threaten National Security in Negotiating the Trans-Pacific Partnership? http://www.truth-out.org/opinion/item/37400-did-president-obama-threaten-national-security-in-negotiating-the-trans-pacific-partnership

The latest line from proponents of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) implies that President Obama threatened long-standing national security relationships in his negotiating of the TPP. These proponents are not pushing the economic merits of the TPP, but rather arguing that its rejection by Congress would jeopardize longstanding ties between the United States and Asia. The claim is that if Congress is not prepared to approve the TPP, then countries like Japan and South Korea will no longer be able to rely on defense commitments that have been in place for more than half a century.

As Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, commented on a trip to Washington:

“It [rejecting the TPP] hurts your relationship with Japan, your security agreements with Japan, … And the Japanese, living in an uncertain world, depending on an American nuclear umbrella, will have to say: On trade, the Americans could not follow through; if it’s life and death, whom do I have to depend upon?”

Anyone notice Russia isn’t on this list

Someone using servers in the US, England, Scotland, and the Netherlands stole voter registration from one state’s Board of Elections website in June and attacked another state’s elections website in August, according to a restricted “Flash” memorandum sent out by the FBI’s Cyber Division. The bureau issued the alert requesting other states check for signs of the same intrusion.

The “Flash” memo, obtained by Yahoo News, was published three days after Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson offered state officials assistance in securing election systems during a conference call. According to Yahoo’s Michael Isikoff, government officials told him that the attacks were on voter registration databases in Illinois and Arizona. The Illinois system had to be shut down in July for two weeks after the discovery of an attack; the registration information of as many as 200,000 voters may have been exposed. No data was stolen in the Arizona attack, but malware was reportedly planted on the site.

The Federal Communications Commission has decided not to appeal a court decision that allows states to impose laws restricting the growth of municipal broadband.

The FCC in February 2015 voted to block laws in North Carolina and Tennessee that prevent municipal broadband providers from expanding outside their territories, but the states convinced a federal appeals court to keep the laws in place. The FCC could have asked for another appeals court review or gone to the Supreme Court but will instead let the matter drop.

“The FCC will not seek further review of the [US Court of Appeals for the] Sixth Circuit’s decision on municipal broadband after determining that doing so would not be the best use of Commission resources,” an FCC spokesperson told Ars today. The decision was also reported yesterday in The New York Times.

Leaked Soros Document Calls For Regulating Internet To Favor ‘Open Society’ Supporters

Very soon, on October 1, 2016, much of the internet’s governance will shift from the US National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) authority to a nonprofit multi-stakeholder entity. The Obama Administration says that the transition will have no practical effects on the internet’s functioning or its users, and even considers the move necessary in order to maintain international support for the internet and to prevent a fracturing of its governance.

The USBee—so named because it behaves like a bee that flies through the air taking bits from one place to another—is in many respects a significant improvement over the NSA-developed USB exfiltrator known as CottonMouth. That tool had to be outfitted with a hardware implant in advance and then required someone to smuggle it into the facility housing the locked-down computer being targeted. USBee, by contrast, turns USB devices already inside the targeted facility into a transmitter with no hardware modification required at all.

“The Anthropocene Is Here: Humanity Has Pushed Earth Into a New Epoch”

The Anthropocene Epoch has begun, according to a group of experts assembled at the International Geological Congress in Cape Town, South Africa this week.

A nonprofit conservative organization advocating for less government must reveal information about major donors to the state’s attorney general if it wants to solicit money in the state, a judge ruled Monday as he rejected First Amendment claims.

U.S. District Judge Sidney H. More than half of the world’s waste — 59% of it, in fact — ends up in landfills. This means that most of the world’s trash eventually ends up releasing toxins that contaminate the soil and groundwater, and emit dangerous greenhouse gases.

But Sweden is setting an example for the rest of the world. Less than 1% of Sweden’s household waste ends up in landfills. Of the 4.4 million tons of household waste produced by the nation every year, 2.2 million are converted into energy by a process called waste-to-energy (WTE).

Before this process starts, home and business owners filter and separate the waste into hazardous wastes and recyclable material, which are then sent to different waste-management systems, like incinerators and recycling, and a small amount to landfills.

So… for reasons that would take too long to articulate, I do not have regular garbage service. One part of the reason is that I tend to generate LESS than ONE grocery bag of garbage per week and therefore, why should I be paying around $200 / month for garbage service?! … So, instead, I mooch off the extra, unused dumpster space of a neighbor. . . SOME things collect, bigger stuff.

In particular, the price of recyclable steel has gone close to zero and so among that and other kinds of things, piles have accumulated.

Add to this that we now understand that it’s been for a few years now reported that the local trash company now harvests metals from the trash stream…

Present this evening’s circumstance: a completely empty dumpster! :-O

…I might work all night to take advantage! My “worthless” metal salvage will be harvested anyway, etc… YAY!… I MIGHT work all night! 🙂

    • RTIII

      OK, two hours have passed…

I’m STILL trying to take advantage of this (formerly!) empty dumpster! … I found that a friend of mine had added – without telling me?! X-( – to the pile of metal debris out back so I had to cut up some VW Beetle parts because they were too big to fit into the dumpster! 🙁

OK, got that done – cut up the part into smaller pieces… Not yet done with all I might throw out, now that I have the opportunity AND knowing that they are now, by law apparently, culling recyclables from the main garbage stream… … VERY surprised there’s no overnight team still commenting here!

      😕

      • RTIII

Hey, another hour and I got all of what could easily be done, done. 🙂

STILL nobody else posting deeply puzzles me, though! I thought we were a “24/7” organization! 🙂

For what it’s worth, I took advantage of this rare opportunity and sent a lot of ultra-low-value metals to a certain recycling – whereas otherwise, literally, the time and effort taken to recycle would have been worth several times what you’d get for the “scrap.”

Metal wasn’t the only stuff I was tossing out – the place also looks a bit better! 🙂

Hey RT. I spend time in other groups when nobody is posting here. Shhhh.

Fuck your early morning math shit. It’s August 30th. You don’t pull that shit on people before they’ve had their morning cup of coffee, and a bowl….

      • 17

Yours is the second spanking I’ve gotten so far this morning. One more and I’m gonna develope a complex.

        • Edwin

Maybe some of the other voices in your head can talk you down.

          • 17

            Oh shit.

          • Edwin

Ha ha. I can’t really follow what’s going on in that tweet exactly. Looks to me like there are a lot of self-important douchebags on Twitter. Karoli leads the pack, the little shaker-mover blog-chick.

The only ass she ever kicks is when she puts down her bonbons long enough to swing the ban-hammer (because she lied about what someone posted.)

Anyone who thinks the Russians are tampering with your election is an asshole.

      • cathyx

Karoli is basically chanting USA! USA!

        • Edwin

          I think really she’s chanting Ka-ro-li Ka-ro-li. ^.^

          (like a true douchebag)

      • towerofbabel

How dare the Russians expose the DNC’s corruption? (If they did, which I doubt they did, but who cares.)

Washington Post Editors Caricature Jill Stein As ‘Fairy Tale’ Presidential Candidate

For a third-party candidate, the fact that the Washington Post met with Stein is quite an accomplishment. But the editorial board crassly attacked her after the meeting.

    • Fuck the Washington Post. It’s doesn’t even rise to the level of a bad news publication, it’s merely a caricature of a bad news publication.

Architect of the ‘New World Order’ is Giving up on America’s Empire

Foreign policy lunatic, architect of the ‘New World Order,’ and personal mentor to Barack Obama, Zbigniew Brzezinski, appears to have abandoned his lifelong dream of a complete, unchallenged American empire. He is now yielding to what he refers to as a “global realignment,” instead.

Earth-like planet found orbiting closest star to sun

The planet, designated Proxima b, is 4.22 light-years from Earth – essentially a celestial next-door-neighbor. At 40 trillion kilometers (25 trillion miles) away, it is easily the closest Earth clone ever found. If a small, unmanned spacecraft were launched in the next few years, it could reach Proxima b by 2100; children living in 2016 would be alive to see the craft’s arrival.

‘The Mother of All Risks’: Insurance Giants Call on G20 to Stop Bankrolling Fossil Fuels

Warning that climate change amounts to the “mother of all risks,” three of the world’s biggest insurance companies this week are demanding that G20 countries stop bankrolling the fossil fuels industry.

Multi-national insurance giants Aviva, Aegon, and Amlin, which together manage $1.2tn in assets, released a statement Tuesday calling on the leaders of the world’s biggest economies to commit to ending coal, oil, and gas subsidies within four years.

This is what it will take to change our ways. Money driven, of course, but what isn’t?

    • cathyx

From the article: In the first half of 2016 alone, natural catastrophes have caused $70bn in losses, of which $27bn was insured, according to an assessment by insurance and reinsurance company Munich RE—with events of particular note being climate-related “storms in the U.S. and Europe, massive forest fires in Canada, and the complete absence of typhoons in the northwestern Pacific.”

    Obama’s Imperial Mideast Policy Unravels

President Obama’s Mideast policy is such a confusing mess that he is now supporting Turkey’s invasion of northern Syria although it’s primary target is not ISIS but another U.S. ally, the Kurds, explains Daniel Lazare.
